Well the reason yuo really join a Greek Organization is name. The real reason you should join is to find people you are comfortable socializing and working with. May not be the biggest or the best but if you join the wrong one you will be miserable!!!!!!!

I am currently pledging and having a great time, I decided I would like to be a member of Kappa Sigma because it was the house on campus that I felt most comfortable just hanging out at, the guys are all great, and I cant wait untill Im done! I decided to go greek because I thought that the contacts that I could make would be great, and I also wanted to be a part of something that is so awsome as Kappa Sigma.

KSIGTAZ 01-03-2001 07:51 PM

Parrothead good to hear your enjoying Kappa Sigma. Being a brother is even greater. I rushed for the party aspect at first. During my pledgship I began understanding what being a brother was all about. As an active I learned the true meaning of brotherhood. I also learned responsibilty by holding leadership positions. Now as an alumni not one day goes by that I don't have contact with one of my brothers. In fact I have an interview at Intel later this month because of a Kappa Sigma Brother. I joined to be a partier and yes I did party but I also was prepared for life. Parrothead
after your initiation you will understand.

My friends from high school are, sadly enough, sluts. I've had the same boyfriend for 5 years. They're big into getting drunk, I don't think I've ever been "drunk". I decided to go out on my own & find some girls like myself. I rushed, & didn't tell the girls from HS until weeks after bid day. It was one of the most liberating things I've ever done, corny as it sounds. I'm now (almost) a Chi Omega & have never been happier! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
As a side note, one of the girls from HS dropped out after fall quarter, the other lost her scholarship, is moving out of the dorms & only taking 2 classes this semester. Not to mention the friend who got married and has a baby due in April. They're all 19.
It seems to me, I made a great choice!

Parrothead, from your nick, I am assuming that you're a Jimmy Buffett fan. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Isn't he a Kappa Sigma? I remember reading somewhere that he was in Kappa Sigma at USM...

When I started college, no amount of money in the world could have convinced me to rush. I thought that greeks were just like most girls at my high school- exactly the same and very snotty if you weren't one of them. Well, once I got here, I met some great girls who invited me to visit their house. There I met girls that were like me. They cared about their education but wanted to enjoy school. They each had very different and distinct styles/personalities. I was in love with the house the first time I visited and I accepted a bid without hesitation. I am so lucky to have great sisters that I can call at anytime and that are always willing to go do something.
Sorry that this was so long!

Heidi, I'm glad that you decided to take another road. It's unfortunate that your friends have suffered, but you're right--you've made the right decision.

I became interested in joining a sorority after realizing that I hadn't really done anything with myself in college. Sure, I was a full time student that had a part time job, but I really wanted to become involved on campus. I first pledged a local, Asian interest sorority, and I discovered that they weren't for me. They hazed their pledges (peeons was the name the used for us). Needless to say, I depledged. After that situation I decided that going Greek wasn't for me.

And then a friend of mine (an AGD sister) approached me about an Open House for Alpha Gamma Delta. My friend was Recruitment chair that semester. How convenient! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I liked what I saw...and my friend ended up becoming my sister-mother!

I'm glad that I didn't let that bad experience ruin my outlook on Greek life! It's been 3 1/2 years since my HS friends and I graduated and by this time we've all moved on into different interests. They're not really supportive of my decision to be in a sorority, but hey--that's their opinion. We're always going to stay friends, but for now we're happy doing our own things!

I decided to rush bc I wanted to meet more people than just those who were on my floor. I fell in love with Delta Zeta and have never looked back.

Oooh! Another Buffett fan! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I'm a huge fan, to the point of annoying my friends because I play his stuff constantly. I went to his concert in New Orleans in 1999, and it was *amazing* I've read some rumored tour dates for this spring, and I'm already trying to figure out how to take off school and go to Houston or Dallas to see a show.

I've never been to Key West, but I'm from New Orleans, one of his other "hometowns." I'd love to go down there someday http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

parrotthead - i also joined the kappa sigma chapter here b/c it was the best group of guys i met, and because i felt that i would fit here best (ok, i wanted to party too . . . ). as you go through, i hope you have similar experiences to what i have had - it was truly the best decision i have made in school, and brotherhood in the order is the best feeling in the world. Good luck with pledging, and AEKDB to Taz and the other brothers -
