Non-greek dates are always welcome at formals. My husband, who did not join a fraternity, was my date at two AEPhi formals. When a GLO has a formal, each member can invite whomever she or he likes... greek or not.

My sisters were added to my circle of friends - they did not replace them. As the old Girl Scout song goes: "Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the other is gold."

May seem like a silly question. Anyway I'm a guy not involved in Greek Life. I am dating a girl and can see it progressing. She's accepting her bid in a sorority at my large state school in the spring. So question is, can a guy go to a formal even if they aren't in a fraternity? Is that common? Also would you say that girls in sororities usually add their sisters as a new group of friends or replace their friends?

Thanks :)

The girl GLO members who came to our dances used it as a chance to get to know non-GLO members to make new friends and do a little pre-rushing/pre-recruitment. When I and my chapter brothers went to sorority dances, we did the same with the non-Greek guys. We took the opportunity to get to know them and see if they would make good brothers. You may end up involved in Greek Life before you know it.

My first formal, I brought a non-greek....it was four couples to a table, only ONE of the guys were Greek...the others was a BF, a best friend of a BF that was in the Marines and my friend who met a bunch of the sisters as I pledged (it was right after I got in).

My second year I brought a greek, but once again my table was a mix of Greeks and non-Greeks.

As her BF, I hope you take the chance to meet both her sisters and other Greeks that she will be hanging out with as she goes through the pledge process, so you won't feel left out at events like formal.
