GLOs ARE allowed at the university...I'm not sure where you got the idea they aren't, unless you mean houses. Houses are not allowed on the campus because the campus is very close to the city and there would be no room for them. Houses aren't allowed on MANY MANY MANY MANY campuses in this state, but it doesn't mean they don't exist...it means they are off campus.

He's not doing this for "status" or "a basement to throw parties" but to have an alternative to renting houses and getting screwed up the butt by the landlords who so like to do so to college students around here.

First of all, even though I don't know what the school is, many establishments will work with a greek letter organization if an idea is proposed correctly. Some will ID and do wristbands, while others will raise the cover charge and just turn off the alcohol and beer. More people can get into the party and revenue increases. Even if non college students go, they would see what a college fraternity party is like, and may be inspired to attend school themselves. If the party is managed right, everyone will be happy.

Second, I was referring to houses not being allowed on. And I really don't care about status. But if the venue isn't perfect for any function, it can go horribly wrong. I thought there was a reference to an attic dormer that collapsed. If you're going to get a house for any sort of function, you should get the best one, not the first one. That's all I really mean.

It won't work here. Trust me. Unless the bar has zero business and is desperate. And the fraternity members wouldn't want to have an event at someplace lame.

Not to mention that in PA, you cannot even enter a bar if you're under 21, so that would prevent 75% (roughly) of the members from attending any sort of party that's open to the public. Any events where an establishment is rented must be closed events...and the bars aren't too jazzed about losing business for a night to a group where the majority can't drink anything but pop and water.

I just now noticed that arch is from Pittsburgh. That makes sense. I heard the nightlife isn't the most fun in the country. Even if a place wasn't doing well, I could see an establishment taking a huge cut of the next year's profits if an event was a success. It hurts consistency. That's unfortunate.
