I probably don't like as much jam as you do, and I can't really get into Eli Young, although I've tried. Good list, however.

Just teasing. I pretty much agree w/ everything on that list. Does Chris Robinson & NEM sound like the Black Crowes with different guys or is it a whole different sound? I HATE Nickelback and all those other bands that sound like Creed/Pearl Jam ripoffs, and as far as the emo bands...there's nothing wrong w/ slow songs but back it up with some chops. It's like guys listened to Paula Cole because their girlfriends made them and then forgot to take it out of the CD player and started to like it. Yuck! Drolefille is also right about finding locally owned stations. In teeny outlying markets, if at all possible. Pgh mainstream radio sucks, but there are stations in little Washington & Scottdale that I listen to all the time. Oh, and the listener supported station too, although if they get too wussy I need to change it for a while. |

NIN has been around almost 20 years, I'd hardly classify it in a 'kids these days ' category. You not liking music does not automatically make it god awful. It's just not your taste. Come on, tell me you didn't like the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt. Tell me. |
Slipknot, haha. If you're gonna play 7 string, you might wanna try and learn to play on 6 first.

Rob knows his shit, but that doesn't mean he's the be-all, end-all God of music (but if your tastes really and truly suck, you deserve to be mocked).
I think centaur has it spot on -- listen to what you like but don't write it all off. Try something new for a change. (And, FWIW, I feel the same way you do about the Beatles). The husband listens to a lot of streaming radio at his work; one of his favorite stations is 99x out of Atlanta. The stations here don't have much variety, so he gets lot of his new music from them. I have extremely eccentric tastes in music. I know some of the bands I listen to are crap, but I don't care. I listen to them anyway. |
House music all night long.
On another note, RU OX, I think you'd like Jaylib, J Dilla, and Gnarls Barkley, or at least you will if you have a soul. Also check out Mr. Oizo. ETA: Macallan, are you like 45 years old? |

No, 21.....why? Sorry I have good taste in music. On a side note....I probobly have a broader range of music that I listen to and have in my collection than most people that I know.......so I have listened to about everything. ( I mean, I have about 38,000 songs on my computer.) I just think hardcore death metal like Slipknot, Static X, Cannibal Corpse, etc. is horrible music, not enjoyable, and really serves no purpose. The instrument playing is horrible and you can't distinguish anything apart from one another. I don't think the musicians have any talent whatsoever....so they make up for it with screaming loudly and playing the same chords over and over again as loud and hard as they possibly can. Of all of the hardcore metal that I have listened to....I'd probobly say Korn is the most talented. Atleast you can tell that they have people playing instruments that know what they are doing. |

Yeah, I like Eli live alot more than his recorded stuff. I guess I try to get into new Texas type stuff as much as I can becasue there is so much of it. Paul Eason, Eleven Hundred Springs, Phil Pritchett and Honeybrowne are some of my favorites right now. Also, have you ever heard of Virginia Coalition....I think you'd like them. |

I call myself a music schizo because my CD collection includes Frank Sinatra, Mozart Operas, The Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, various Broadway musicals, Ashlee Simpson, Garth Brooks, etc... |

I don't mind Kelly Clarkson, for the simple fact that she can flat out sing. I mean her songs mostly suck and she's a little MTV for my tastes, but she's got talent in a world of mediocre stars.
On another note, I didn't really mention, but I love some 90's stuff...Oasis, Counting Crows, Wallflowers...I also am a huge one/two hit wonder fan...semisonic, Stroke 9, stuff like that. I think in HS I saw live pretty much every band that had a hit song on 99x from 1994-2000... As for Atlanta radio, I really like 97.1 The River, though it gets kind of repetitive. I'll listen to some Dave FM as well, since they're like the official Talking Heads station. |
