Glad to hear you're safe!

Thanks again all.

I spent the past few hours reading up on national coverage on the whole thing and while the damage is severe in some areas, I'm glad to say that things could have been a whole lot worse. It was Sunday morning when most people were just getting up, just getting ready to go to church, etc. I can only imagine what it would be like had it happened when the roads were more populated. I'm thankful that my house has only minimal damage, unlike the homes in Kona town.

About 80% of Oahu has electricity again, but a lot of East Honolulu residents are still out of luck. A lot of shops and restaurants in metro Honolulu *just* got power back (it's 8:48 PM HST), but they'll remain closed till tomorrow because there's no point in business -- unless you're Jack in the Box and McDonalds, because their lines are out the door and around the corner!

Earlier, I invited some friends to come over for dinner and a hot shower since we've been up for 4 hours now. Funny how they didn't go straight to the dinner table...they all attacked my laptop because they wanted to check email and MySpace!

Holy freaking crap, I did not know that it was a 6.6!

Power was restored about 30 minutes ago. The 1st quake hit at 7:07 AM and that's what woke us up. Power stayed on till about 7:30 and it was gone all day. 2nd quake hit at about 7:15 and the last one at about 10:30. While I was part of the 40,000 who got their power back...Downtown/Eastern Honolulu is still without it.

When we woke up, M went to get the baby and I just ran to the bathroom door so I could stand under its frame but it was so hard to even stand up. M got called in to assess the damage at work (he runs a golf course) because of the quake and heavy rains. I was surprised to get through to my mom, who said that our house had some damage to the patio roof, but everyone was okay. Driving home this morning I saw a bunch of cracks and minor fissures, but nothing like the Big Island.

I'm at mom's house right now and I'm not gonna bother going anywhere because the rain's just coming down in sheets.

I just saw images from the airport. Flights cancelled left and right.

Step-dad works out of Kona during the work week building homes. No word yet at the damage. We couldn't get a hold of my family all day because of the jammed lines, but my aunt in Kohala got through to us at about 3PM. She learned how to text message for the first time today!

We get baby earthquakes (2.0, 3.0, etc.) everyday because of the volcanic activity on the Big Island...but nothing like this.

No tsunamis...knock on wood no fatalities.

Thanks for the well wishes....thank you to Cara for being my newslink to the outside world...OTW over and out!

Glad you're ok - that sounds scary as all get out.

Sandy,

Sure glad that things weren't worse -- bad as they were/are.

Take care.
