preferentials: each sorority held three parties.
the pnms could attend a maximum of two pref parties. my daughter was fortunate to be able to attend two.
her first party was at a o pi. the girls were all in red dresses. she said that they all looked very nice. they had set up small tables(those round particle board tables with the screw on legs). they had white tablecloths on the tables with red overlays. each table had a single long stemmed red rose. in the middle of the table was a mini fish bowl shaped bowl which held some clear marbles and a single red rose, with the stem cut real short. they had white wooden folding chairs.she was preffed by a girl she had not met before-she was nice. they talked a while and then everyone gathered for the pref. ceremony.
she then had a break and attended the last party at zta. she said that the girls were dressed in long white dresses. the room was draped in white muslin and every few feet they had hung gold fabric that pooled onto the floor. they also had the little round tables with white table cloths and gold overlays. they had the same type of chair as a o pi(someone is birmingham was cleaning up on rentals!!) , but they used white slip covers on their chairs.
each table had a vase with white lilies in it. they had divided their room in half:the conversation area and the pref. ceremony area. she was preffed by the immediate past president, whom we had met last fall during senior preview weekend. she had given us a tour of the house and spent about two hours with us, introducing my daughter to members and showing us the house. we were very impressed with this young lady at the time, and my daughter said that she was just as impressive tonight. the zta was assisted by a sophomore who my daughter really liked. she said that should she get a bid from zta, she might like this girl as her big sister. they had a good conversation and then it was time for the ceremony.
she said that the pnms sat in chairs that formed a semi-circle. the members stood against the perimeter of the room and each held a candle.there were several of the small tables with white tablecloths in the front of the room. on the tables were single candles and lilies. the ceremony began with a quartet singing a zeta song. she said that they were very good. then some of the speakers spoke. then a soloist sang 'feels like home" and was accompanied on the violin by the ex-pres. and by a girl playing the piano. she said that it was outstanding. at one point in the ceremony one of the speakers took her lit candle and lit one the the members candles who then lit her neighbors until everyones candle was lit.
after this party, the rho gamma group ranked their choices.
bid day is tonight.
