Think what you like.

My curiousity stems from friends of ours who have two daughters -- the older was Miss Teen Colorado when she was in High School. Her younger sister was Miss Colorado when she was in college.

I simply don't believe that the first would have competed in a Teen pageant when she was in college. Obviously, the second didn't.

Knowing my two girls, I suspect that they and their friends would have teased any college aged woman fairly unmercifully if they joined the "Miss Teen" whatever pageant. Kids can be fairly cruel.

Thats why I asked the question, and labeled it as my being "curious." Nothing more, nothing less.

I am so smart...S-M-R-T.

No one started a thread for this year's pageant (which aired last Friday).

Did anyone watch Miss Teen South Carolina's interview?

Wow. I couldn't even watch all 30 seconds of it. I'm really hoping she didn't win.

LOL, she didn't -- although she was a finalist (3rd RU, if I'm not mistaken).

Sad to say was posted all over YouTube within minutes of it airing.

What was amazing to me was that Miss Teen South Carolina finished ahead of someone else! Wasn't she like third runner up ahead of Miss Teen West Virginia?

irishpipes 08-27-2007 04:26 PM

I was almost as disturbed by her hands on her hips as I was by her answer.

Seriously?

Because her answer was pretty bad - I mean, I know "hands on hips" is bad, but . . . kids need maps to learn? South Africa? I guess that's "white shoes after Labor Day" bad?

Jesus.

I was watching with my mom and sister. I thought Miss Teen SC was the prettiest, and then when she did that interview all I could do was cringe. Did she even listen to the question?!

I thought NJ deserved to win, but Colorado was good too.

That was allllll over the morning radio shows today.

Oh.
My.
Gosh.

Yep... the U.S. Americans (as opposed to other "Americans"?) don't have maps.. and The Iraqs and South Africa need to help with education? Huh?

Poor girl.

I'm more embarrased by the cokehead treasurer (an elected official) than the bumbling beauty queen. But at least she's not from Charleston or Greenville (she's acutally from Lexington). You can tell she was strugging with than answer. :(

I'll be honest, I felt sorry for her. There she stood, a finalist in a national pageant, and she absolutely choked when it counted the most. You just know that she'll kick herself for years!

That said, prior to the competition, I was all excited to see that the Miss Teen South Carolina was an Alpha Delta Pi at Clemson - but she was last year's contestant (*whew*). Her photo is in the ADPi Forum.

No one can be that choked up to give the kind of answer that she did. All she was asked was how come a 1/5th of Americans cannot locate US on a map. So what did S. Africa, Iraq and Asia have to do with that answer?

A lame attempt to prove that she did know that other countries existed?

I just saw her on the morning news, and she knew the minute it came out of her mouth that it wasn't making sense. I still think she was just SO nervous, her mind went blank and she knew she had to say something. If you think about it honestly, I would think that each of us choked on something when we were her age.

My own personal reason (since nobody asked!) is that we need to bring back Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego!!

I LOVED that game! I had the PC edition, and I caught Carmen several times. (Even if I did have to use the cheat book with world fact in it, at least I was learning while searching for the info...)

Actually, that reminds me that on Telemundo this weekend, I saw "¿Dónde está Carmen Sandiego?".
