I'm shocked at your selfishness. I know you're here to cause trouble, but I doubt that your attitude is singular to you. It breaks my heart. Why wouldn't you take what you have and give back? So, you enjoy it and you bring joy to others.

I won't lie either, community service was not among the leading factors that caused me to go greek.

If not community service, at least some level of philanthropy!! I'm so disappointed. :(

I mean, we did philanthropy stuff, and raised quite a bit of money from events...
But I joined a fraternity mainly for two reasons:
1) It is almost a rite of passage for strong southern families. It helps to bring you into adulthood and network with people who can aid you throughout life.
2) I wanted to have fun in college. I went to a big southern university, and wanted to experience southern fraternity life in all its glory.

-Networking and Connections
-Have a badass time in College at a huge Southern school
-Carry on family and community traditions
-valuable lessons one can learn in joining a fraternity

Granted, our chapter has done alot of philanthropy and raised alot of money, but that was not a reason for joining a fraternity.

I joined a sorority mostly to meet a variety of new people--my first semester of college was spent heavily involved with my school's Honors College, and joining a sorority was a great way to meet people outside the "honors bubble."

I also wanted to become involved in many school traditions (Homecoming floats, Sing, etc.) and give back to the community somehow.

We are getting into fundamental differences between men and women. Honestly, the majority of guys join fraternities for the main reasons:

1 - because they just want to be in a fraternity
2- family members were greek and they want to be greek also
3 - to meet girls
4 - to go to the parties

Now, before I am blasted, remember what I said: this all goes back to the fundamental differences betwen men and women. Guys join fraternities for different reasons that women join sororities. That said, once they are in the fraternity, the philanthropy does end up becoming important to them - but it is not a deciding factor for the most part.

Most girls join for the booze and booty too.

But I think you're right about people staying Greek for less selfish reasons.
