I don't see why you are getting so high strung about this. Its not that serious, out here we tend to call them Frats during casual conversation, if you want them called Fraternities then ok. I'm new to the boards I didn't have time to read every guideline, I apologize if I broke some rule or something.

You didn't break a rule or anything, it's just that calling fraternities "frats" touches a nerve with a lot of people. Many negative connotations have come to be associated with the word, and therefore most people don't want to be associated with it.

You know what? I am really tired of this.

There comes a point where people have to let things go.

FRAT FRAT FRAT FRAT FRAT.

If YOU don't identify with the term, then don't respond to it.

Sistergirl already said she's in a black sorority. Have we not already established time and time again that the term FRAT is not a cuss word among people of color?

GROW UP. Get over it. It's not that serious -- the issue is relative to your campuses and not even universal on GreekChat.

Are you sure it's a fraternity and not a gang? I looked up Latino fraternities too and couldn't find the sign. In what context did you see the hand sign?

lovelysha 07-14-2006 10:27 AM

Nope, highly highly doubt its a gang sign...pretty sure those guys are of greek affiliation. And I don't think gang members go to college or wear button up shirts and ties and attend professional after-work events lol!! My brother said the only Latin gangs out here of any significance is the Latin Kings and one or two others, and thats not their sign. And I even I know thats not a blood or crip sign lol. :D

Umm, no, it's probably not a gang then, LOL. I actually looked them up too and couldn't find it. I found similar, but I don't think they're ready to get in their suits and ties and go to a dinner affair, lol.

lovelysha 07-14-2006 12:45 PM

Haha...hey mulattogyrl, are you from PA? I went to Penn. :D

No need to apologize. Keep calling them "frats" since you were probably referencing the frats that don't mind being called frats.

And even many multicultural, Asian, and Latino fraternity and sorority people.

I am still trying to figure out whose handsign that is.
