If she sticks to her roots, then Harry will not die. The Harry Potter series follows the paradigm of fantasy and Quest literature, and the quest must be achieved, which means Voldemort must die.

Harry living, though, doesn't mean living happily ever after -- part of the Quest genre is that achieving the quest does not come without paying a price. Perhaps he will forever bear a scar much deeper than the one on his forehead.

J.K. Rowling has just confirmed that 2 characters will die in the 7th book.

I don't think the following will die...

1) Harry - I just can't see her killing him but you never can tell
2) Hermoine (so spelled her name wrong, but I'm too lazy to look it up)
3) Snape - just to obvious to kill him
4) Malfoy - we could only be so lucky


Who I thik will die...

1) Voldemort - unless they (as in the characters) figure out some way around the prophecy, basically him or Harry have to die, since I don't think Harry will, obviously it has to be him. (Boy I sound so sad...NOT)
2) Ron - I like Ron, I do, but I can see her killing him off.
3) Lupin

Ron and Hermione will both live... Harry might die as might one of Ron's brothers. Lupin is also a potential dead'un and Snape would only die if it's for a good cause (I believe in Snape!)

Harry has to fight Voldemort alone. That's why Dumbledore had to die. Even with his friends' support the battle is now his.

See I'm not sure about Snape. Part of me wants to believe he's good but the other hand says that he is evil.

If Dumbledore believes in him, that's good enough for me! Dumbledore trusted Snape completely, and I think that he wouldn't have done that without a very good reason.

By sticking to her roots, I meant sticking to her origin's roots. Europeans do not usually write children's literature that is dumbed down with happily ever after. Unless they are writing a story that they want to be big in the US. I mean look at the original Grimm Brothers stories. They do not end like the Americanized versions. Also, the Iliad was written to be children's literature. Believe it or not... I hate to think about that book being read by children. It was difficult enough to get through it as an adult.

I also must point out that Harry is always two seconds from dying anyway. If he did not have the help of others, he would already be dead. Killing off Dumbledore was big, at least in my mind, because that was the person who guided him a lot and pushed him in the right directions. The teachers also helped by teaching him what he needed to know to succeed, but if they are truly going off on their own like the book said in the last chapter. Whi is he going to get help from? He is a weak wizard without the help of other knowledgeable people behind him. He just takes their imput and casts it out. Not the smartest. Not the most powerful. However, the book is big here, so he may not die. We shall see.

I got you. And I would pretty much agree, although I might not go so far as to say Europeans as a whole. The "American" versions of many fairy tales, like Cinderalla, are based on the French (Charles Perrault) versions, which usually aren't as gruesome and have happier endings than, say the Grimm's versions. I think we do kids a disservice by giving them the sanitized versions of these stories all the time -- give me the Grimms anyday.

But even the French versions have been sanitized. Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood involved both Red and the Wolf eating grandma for lunch (Red didn't know better) and then sleeping together... and not just sleeping if you know what I mean...

/Perrault wanted to scare his daughter (niece?) away from wolves after she saw one while the went through the forest and said "Nice doggy" (Bon Chien?)

Doesn't the Little Mermaid commit suicide at the end of the Brothers Grimm version?

It's actually Hans Christian Anderson and I think she dies because the guy chooses the other girl... and then maybe the prince commits suicide? Don't recall now.

Oh ok, yea I don't know why I thought Brothers Grimm wrote it. I remember that she died, I just wasn't sure if she commited suicide or not.
