I was raised in a fairly strict background, and have a brother who's a pastor. If I'm listening to something that obviously mocks the Lord or a band whose other songs usually do, I'll turn it off. Yet, I do listen to the Beatles, some of whose stuff isn't exactly holy - but I haven't been convicted not to do so.

As for masterbation, I do know some pastors who will state that, as long as you're not "making an idol" of it, are not imagining some fantasy, or become addicted to it, it's okay. Yet, there are some people who are totally convicted that they shouldn't do so at any time. It completely depends on what you're told to do (or not to do)!

I don't know the answer to that.

But I have heard committed Christians often listen to tapes about masterbation. Okay, I've actually heard more than one pastor say that masterbation is NOT wrong, as long as you are not making an idol out of sex or the act of masterbation. I have tapes concerning the issue.

Does anyone know if one is sinning if they listen to tapes on masterbation and also if they are sinning if they masterbate but don't make it into a religious event?

This reminds me of one of my teachers from Highschool. I attended a Catholic school, and this particular teacher was a nun. She apparently told a class that it was okay for a nun to masterbate as long as it was "to Jesus."

She wasn't asked back the next year.

...so the story goes.

I am in 100% agreement with all that you've said.

Do you have any tapes or other material on masterbation I could borrow? I'd be interested to know how you resist your urges....
