Those are NOT locals. Those are underground chapters. This isn't even apples and oranges, it's apples and hippos.[/QUOTE]

What I was trying to say was that a school taking away a locals charter is the same as a national doing it. That organization would have to go underground just as a national would, it doesn't matter if the alumni consider themselves in a fraternity their charter has been revoked by the schools advisors and governing body. I obviously did not make my point in my first post, hope this clears up the statement I was trying to make

That makes more sense and is quite true. Your sentences just kinda flowed together & it sounded as though you were saying nationally revoked chapters of nationals = locals. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Your welcome, and I will definetly work on my sentences running together. It is a problem I have had since I started writing in school. My writing was always good, but had tons of run ons and got confusing. :0)

I see your point, and I think you're right. But for the sake of being almost anally-clear (yeah, I'll admit it :D), a school cannot revoke or take away a charter; a school revokes or takes away recognition as an approved student organization. A charter is a document from a national fraternity or sorority establishing a chapter of that national org. (For that reason, I would think that a local would not have a charter, unless it was actually created -- not just recognized -- by the school.) Only the national org can issue the charter, so only the national org can revoke or suspend it.
