Just my .06 cents...

Great post Brother PhrozenGenius
As a Mason and Iota, I often hear some say they are members of the oldest and youngest. This sometimes disturbs me. Yes, we are the youngest that was inducted into NPHC, but there are so many great Black fraternities and sororities that was established after Iota. Each and every org. take part in ribbing other orgs. (some more than others), if done right, it can be a healthy banter. But we must respect all that came before and after us. Brotherhood, sisterhood and service for mankind are the basic foundation with all.

In my eyes, Alpha Phi Alpha is my oldest LIVING brother while paying homage to my brothers who has passed away:
Alpha Kappa Nu-1903-Indiana University
Beta Kappa Sigma-1905-Wilberfoce University

And til I am proven wrong, Alpha Kappa Alpha is my oldest LIVING sister.

However, as Black Fraternal Orgs. WE ALL come from Masonry and OES. Masonically, I can't say we are the Father of all fraternities. We just started this journey alittle earlier than most.

Maybe the first born child, but never the originator of black Greek letter organizations. The Masons and Eastern Stars on our campus are furious, because father/mother has always been a title we as the D9 gave to them. What I want to know is:

1. Are these bogus claims common?

2. Do they hold any weight, or as they might say in the south "any water"?

I do not buy into the mother/father crap from ANYONE, D9, or not. Masons/OES are NOT fathers/mothers to Delta, nor is anyone else.

Y'all be on some other stuff is FL.

1. I'll reserve comment on that for risk of opening a Pandora's box.

2. Heck, naw. That statement reeks of arrogance and ignorance and should be taken with a grain of salt while K.I.M.

Marquise, are there any Masons and/or Eastern Stars who are also Alphas and/or AKA's on your campus?

Yes. They don't agree with this claim. To the same effect there are members from all the D9 that become Masons or OES after they pledged their D9 Frats/ Soror on my campus.

I concur (replacing Alpha Kappa Alpha where you have "Delta"). And I agree with Sensuret as well.

I think it's funny that people are so sensitive that they get all up in arms over t-shirts. I guess this will lead to probate/coming out show wars and the like.

It's stupid, you know your history, they know theirs- if there is some discrepancy in perception so the hell what? You can say whatever you want, and respond/retaliate however you want and you aren't going to change anybody's perception. If they say they think they are Mother/Father your whining isn't going to change their minds, in fact nothing you can do will. Grow up folks, it ain't that serioius. Disagree and move on.

Hypothetically SKEE would say that a white person can't birth a black baby. :p

I see where folks are coming from. BUT, these are undergraduates, so they are going to do this. We did it, but not in reference to parents!

They haven't grown up yet. Let's hope that by the time they graduate or at least 5 years after ;) , they aren't saying or doing the same things. Where are my shirts? Stored some where in my apt or at home.

It's almost no different than some of our signatures, here on GC. :D

Skee I could care less if they came up with a bogus DNA test that proved they were the D9's mother and father. I just wanted to know if these claims were common or if they held any weight? But like I said I take it personally when someone has something to say about me or my organization. This is not a whisper in the wind. Imagine 24 super-neos walking around campus every Thursday, pari-day, with those shirts on and the general public believing what the shirts said. It's like some disagreeable stranger walking around with a shirt that says "I'm SKEEphistAKAte's Mama!!!". Would you not be disturbed? If I walked around with a T-Shirt that said some horrendous lie, I know a lot of people would be upset, and that is this case.

Marquise,

Folks are going to talk and/or do regardless...

But if you know your history, then you have no reason to be upset. You know the truth about what the organization you pledged---that's all you have to be concerned about. ;) I am never bothered when I hear my relatives' claim (Mason/OES) to be the mother of Alpha Kappa Alpha. As far as *I* am concerned, that is Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. :D I just ignore them and do *my* thing...but hey, that's just me. :)

Besides--what are you going to do? Rip their shirts off and demand a recant of their allegations? OR all of those opposed can chalk it up to undergrad acting-silly-ness and move on.

Yes they will. But you cannot fault people for getting a little bit testy when someone says something like that. There are some things that should just be left off t- shirts.
