I believe gas prices will level off for a while now due to the national attention that this issue is getting. However I still refuse to buy gas from Exxon and I wish other people will not support these money hungry crooks.

They made more profits than all the other gas companies?

Yes I believe they're number six on forbes (#1 in oil companys) 100 public companys.

Kevin 04-27-2006 04:29 PM

How much profit is too much?

AXEAM 04-27-2006 04:49 PM

It's not about the profit it's about crying about how hard it is to refine oil, keep up w/demands all the while raising prices based on scare tactics (Iran & Iraq as well as Nigeria) exploiting Katrina then make record profits. Then throw on top paying your out going president a package deal worth close to $400 million dollars while the American public suffers.

Katrina had little effect on the Oil and Gas industry. My father is VP or a major oil and gas company and we had a talk about this recently. Also, refining oil is not difficult, I don't know where you get that, but its really not.

Of course it isnt, it is just the fact that they are not putting profits in Refinining! Why?

To Keep The Profits Up!

Supply and Demand.

If people are willing to pay for it, then the price is fair. Now when all the whiners start riding bikes to work or running/walking or taking public Transportation then the oil industry might listen up.

In rural America many of your suggestions are just out of the question...( with no public transportation )walk, run or even ride a bike 30-45 miles to work?

Only for the people who have a choice. Many don't. It's drive to work -- or don't work.

Doesnt this also equate to dont drive to work and not have expendable income to buy food or spend on other items of life?

So, where does theb problem really lay?

Auto Makers who wont get better Vehicles for Gas Mileage or the Midget Morons who buy big gas guzzleing Autos?

Oh, We need to drill in the Tundra of Alaska to get oil, Dont Drill off of the West Coast of Florida for Oil.

If there is Oil, there is not enough refinerys to refine it.

So, someone come up with a definative answer. The band aid approach via Congress and The President is a damn Joke!

These are actually very valid points. For so long, the liberal, pro-environmental wackjobs bitched about drilling off California, drilling off Florida, building refineries.....so it didn't happen.......great.....now look at the situation.

Do you have any evidence on how much additional oil and lng you could produce by drilling in those areas? It's not enough to offset prices.

Some of us would actually like not to wake up to disgusting pollution. I know people in Texas don't understand that because Houston is beyond disgusting.

macallan25 05-05-2006 06:52 PM

Not on hand, but my father is in the oil and gas industry and I could find out. I don't know much about Florida, but I know that California has a pretty large amount of reserves, I would think that the shelf extends out into the ocean.

And I am not really sure what you are talking about with Houston and pollution, especially since you live in a state with probobly the number 1 smog filled, polluted city in the country, LA. Thats a pretty broad statement to claim that an entire state wouldn't understand something because of 1 city.

I was unaware that the act of drilling for oil and natural gas created pollution.
