Me thinks twolips has been gone from posting?

As lifesaver said, some Kid just looking and probably wont look anymore or even go through Recruitment.

chio84 04-05-2006 05:21 PM

honestly. you people are just blatantly RUDE. first of all, i didn't know anything about sororities before i went to college, and that doesn't make me stupid. i would have had absolutely no idea whether it was kosher to ask about national reputations or not.. i can't believe one of you actually insulted this girl's intelligence for asking about national reputations. give me a break.

secondly, sororities DO HAVE DIFFERENT NATIONAL REPUTATIONS. i know you all would love to deny it, but it's true! while, obviously, it is not going to be the only thing to consider during rush, or maybe wouldn't be considered at ALL by one of you, it is perfectly logical and normal for someone to at least be aware of the stereotypes before going into recruitment. if you are caught between one sorority and the other and truly cannot choose between the two, and the first has an amazing national reputation with strong alumni clubs, especially in the region where you live, and the second is known for being much smaller with no alum clubs where you live... don't you think you should at least be aware of that in order to make an educated decision?

honestly, if i were reading this i would never want to be a part of any greek organization.

to the original poster: i pm'ed you. also, don't think that everyone in greek organizations is so rude- no one in my chapter would act like this to someone interested in rushing.

Pretty snippy for such a new poster. I'd really be sad if you were't part of any greek organization.

I posted this in the greeklife thread, but since it was closed, I am reposting:

tulip, I suggest that you go to recruitment and decide for yourself which sorority is the best fit for you. You can also check out the websites of each of these sororities from the NPC website here.

Then what, pray tell you, are the national reputations of the groups she listed? Really, i'm curious, since you profess to know them.

She didn't ask about alumni "clubs" (or what we sorority women generally call "alumnae associations".). If she did, she could certainly find that info on the homepage of each of those organizations.

She didn't ask about region. She didn't ask about anything specific that would actually lead to an "educated decision".

I'm not sure how asking about national stereotypes can lead to an "educated decision." Actually, IMO, it would be more than likely to lead to an "uneducated decision" since it would be information based on gossip and stereotypes, not facts and personal feelings.

You talk about people here being rude, but your own post was very rude, especially for a newbie. Pot, kettle, hypocrite?

Rudey 04-05-2006 06:57 PM

Just because she's new doesn't exactly give you the right to be rude to her either.

Since Kddani mentioned regions. I'll give you the skinny on some sororities that I've come across during my undergrad.

Tri Delt- They are all super hot. Jesus christ. UCI, USC, UCLA. They are HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT

I'm not sure what other schools the tridelts are at, but at those three they are really hot.

The Pi Phis I've known in So Cal were pretty too. They were more of the brunette type. Me likes.

At my school, all the girls were hot. ZTA, KD, ChiO and EK =) . This may have changed but...EK = hot blondes. KD = cute brunettes. ChiO = cute blondes ZTA = really cute hot girls. always fun to be around. i always liked ZTA at my school. lots of really close friends from that chapter

The Chapman DGs were hot...Alpha Phis were the really pretty, all american girls.

at CSUF...ADPi and Gamma Phi Beta...hubba hubba.

Gamma Phi Beta was hot at UCR as well. As was AchiO and Kappa.

Never really knew that many SDSU girls, except Pi Phis are Theta, and both of them were hot.

Theta at UCI was hot. But I feel filthy for saying that since my cousin was a Theta there.

Oh, and if you go to UCSB and you are in a sorority, then it was a requirement for you to be hot. So at UCSB, everyone was winner there :) Except for one sorority though :(

eta: didn't get to mention Long Beach state much. I only met one tri delt there. If you multiply her by 100, then that chapter would be super duper hot. So just by her alone, Tri Delt was hot. Met a few Alpha Phis as well. They were pretty.

Never knew any AOPis though :( But I hear there was this one Frenchi AOPi from HB. I hear she was kind of hot. Too bad she's married though.

You talk about people here being rude, but your own post was very rude, especially for a newbie. Pot, kettle, hypocrite?

1. Maybe you should re-read my post. i did not profess to know those sororities' national reputations. I merely stated that sororities, in general, DO have national reputations... which they do.

2. I'm sorry, at my school we refer to them colloquially as alumni (or alumnae, to be grammatically correct) clubs. For my sorority the correct term is actually alumnae chapter, not association. I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with your "we sorority women" comment, but I'm guessing you are suggesting that I am not in a sorority.. not correct.

Of course she could look up information about alumni clubs. In fact, I think you could look up the answers to about 80% of the questions on this website. Sometimes it's easier to interact with others and ask a broad question than to take time and look up statistics on each of these sororities. Her question was very broad, and I think she just wanted whatever information anyone could give her. The girl is probably in high school - i'm sure she doesn't even know what specifics to ask for.

3. I think that knowing stereotypes about something does assist you in making an educated decision about it. In order to make a truly educated decision, you should attempt to find out all the information that you can, and make of it what you wish. If the stereotype of a certain sorority was crappy, maybe you would rather choose a sorority with a better stereotype. I'm not saying that's the correct thing to do, or what I would do, but it is certainly something that PLENTY sorority women DO take into account, like it or not... and they have every right to do so.

Secondly, a big part of sororities national reputations do have plenty to do with facts and figures. I am fairly confident that if anyone asked me what my sorority's national reputation is, one of the first things that I would say would be "well, we are very well known because we are the biggest sorority in the country." That is totally factual. I would also mention the fact that we have a lot of chapters in the South, and a much smaller presence in the Northeast. Perhaps other sororities have similar FACTUAL things they could say. I don't know- and neither does she.

4. How does me being new on the board affect whether I am allowed to post rude things or not? First of all, I'm not new, I just forgot my password to my other account, and secondly, NO ONE shoudl be rude. I was NOT being rude, merely sticking up for some poor girl who is probably totally turned off to the greek system by some incredibly ill-mannered people. One person even had the audacity to tell her that she wouldn't be a good addition to greek life, or something along those lines, because she asked that question. How ridiculous.

Heheh, Bobby is my hero. :) Though not a "frenchie" for real, I am a teacher of said language...so am I a Frenchie by default? Anyhow..

I would be curious to know said National reputations, but considering the person who posted that probably hasn't met every member from every NPC organization, I doubt it would be accurate.

P.S. How goes it Bobby? =)

Hey whats up?! I've been good. Weather cleared up you know? Really windy though.

Ok more AOPi stuff. You can't really say Cal Poly SLO is SoCal, but AOPi at that school is very pretty. You'd be proud.

Stan, you need to help me out here bro.

blah blah blah

If only it were so simple to keep the idiots out of greek life... be rude to them and they dont join. My job as chapter advisor would be 1000X easier.

BTW, too bad you didnt ask the same question when you were in HS....

kddani 04-05-2006 09:37 PM

So you don't know any sorority's national reputations, yet you insist that they have them?

wow.. you really need to work on your reading skills!

not "professing" about knowing them does not equal not knowing them. you can very easily know all about something without running around telling people you know it.

while i COULD give plenty of national reputations for other sororities, it's rude. so i won't.

pinkiebell1001 04-05-2006 10:29 PM

rawr... cat fight anyone???:P

But seriously, while it may not have been the BEST idea to post on a greek website asking about such things, alot of people who aren't in greek life may not realize that asking a question like that isn't really appropriate, so we should just give her a break people! Like someone else said, she's probably a 17 year old just starting to look at colleges, and so we really shouldn't pick on her-i know most of us have done/said stupider things when we were 17!
