Dunbar divides Varsity and JV by SKILLS and not grade level. Which is why the coach required a standing back tuck as a minimum for Varsity.

When does the show come on? I wanted to watch it last week, but I was on Spring Break, and I don't have cable at home.

See that is the logic I like. I thought it was lame in high school that JV was for certain grades and Varsity was for certain grades. It should be purely based on skill. Just because you are a senior doesn't mean that somehow you are better than a junior. Does that make sense?

Both high schools I went to were like that. And really it makes the most sense to me. I make sound like a jerk, but if you're a senior and get booted from the team because other younger girls can do it better, than so be. Sports are fun, but try-outs exist for a reason to me.

I watched the 1st episode for the first time tonight and about to watch the 2nd. I'm totally addicted.

And I feel for Taylor. I was a competitve springboard/platform diver in highschool and college and I used to pysch myself out like no other about some of the stupidest things. It really sucked bad. I hope she gets over it soon though.

Ooo, and I so love Katie. Good for her making the team. That's awesome. She kinda looks like Kristen from Laguna Beach to me too...

Okay, I'm totally and completely shocked!! My high school has the Freshman Squad, JV (sophmore thru senior by skills), and Varsity (also by skills, but NEVER with a freshman!).

I only saw a bit of the show, so I don't have much of an opinion yet.

KSUViolet06 03-20-2006 02:13 AM

The former soccer player ( I think her name is Megan) is impressive. The things she's doing have taken most girls YEARS to build up to. She must catch on fast.

The bag Ryan got for birthday was (I'm pretty sure) the Kate Spade bookbag purse.

For some reason, Chelsea bothers me, I'm not sure why.

This show really brings back alot of memories of the DRAMA of HS.

At the HS by brother attended Seniors could not be on JV but Freshman could make Varsity. At my HS a Junior could not be on JV but Freshman could make Varsity.

I think it makes sense to divide by skill but if a Senior can't hack it on Varsity maybe they shouldn't be on either team? Why should a Senior be given a spot on JV when that spot can be given to a younger girl. One that you can develop talent with and can go on to Varsity the following years?

Katie, the soccer girl, is great.

Chelsea is a brat. My mom would have slapped me if I had treated her like that.

What kind of car is it that Ryan got? I think it's a Grand Vitara but I'm not sure. Something tells me a Grandpa in Kentucky wouldn't buy his grandkid a Suzuki.

Chelsea has a serious attitude problem. My parents would have slapped me black and blue if I had acted like her. However, a lot of teenagers are acting that way nowadays. My little sister (she's 14) and her entire class at school are horrible to be around because of the attitudes. Why are parents letting them get away with it?

As far as my high school squad went, we only had varsity. Sometimes there were tryouts, sometimes there weren't. We never had much interest for cheerleading, though. I can only remember one JV squad, and that was when my older sister was a sophmore and cheered on it.

epchick 03-20-2006 12:14 PM

Ugh don't even get me started on Chelsea!! lol.

For my freshman & sophomore years of HS, we had both JV and Varsity. But for my junior & senior years we only had Varsity---cheerleading wasn't a big thing at my high school. If you were a cheerleader, you got booed at EVERY event!

But seniors were not allowed to be on JV. I only remember 1 senior my freshman year who insisted on being on JV because she didn't want the "pressure" of being in Varsity. And now that my school has switched to only Varsity, now they allow freshman to join. Which is ok I guess, since the cheerleaders have always sucked! lol

irishpipes 03-20-2006 12:34 PM

My school only had one cheerleading squad, so I guess it was "varsity." However, you couldn't do cheer or pom as a freshman, because tryouts were in the Spring for the following year's squad. Although it was cool to be a cheerleader, I don't remember our cheerleaders ever doing anything. I am sure there wasn't one who could do any tumbling.

ASUADPi 03-20-2006 12:47 PM

Okay so I just finished watching my tape of the episode...

As a coach I completely understand the frustration the coaches are feeling. I had two cheerleaders have to quit the team as a result of injury only like 2 weeks before state (which was actually only 8 practices for us at 1.5 hours, 4 days a week). So I totally feel them.

I actually felt bad for Chelsea. Yes, she shouldn't be treating her mother that way, but I totally feel for her when it comes to Nicole. Nicole is completely blind about her friendship. Nicole is all about her boyfriend (who doesn't like Chelsea). While Chelsea, you could tell, doesn't have a boyfriend so she isn't a member of "the boyfriend club". Nicole is completely ignoring this girl that is supposed to be her best friend for her boyfriend. Does it sound like I've had this happen to me? It's because it has, so I completely understand why Chelsea is being such a bitch, I guess. Her friend is blowing her off for a guy. And Nicole is too stupid to realize that the way she is treating Chelsea is part of the problem.

I thought Kaitlin's mom was a total stage mom. She is definately living vicariously through her child.

I actually really like Ryan's mom. I thought with her own daughter on the team that she would be, I don't know, all about Ryan, but it doesn't seem like she is.

Okay, was anyone else doing this...as I was watching the show I was literally "taking metal notes" of who I thought would end up going Greek in college. LOL.

irishpipes 03-20-2006 12:54 PM

I think Ryan is lucky that she is such a good cheerleader so she doesn't have to endure any "you're only on the team because your mom is the coach" crap. She seems like a sweet girl and is a great cheerleader.

I agree that Nicole is treating Chelsea badly, but I don't think it is any excuse for Chelsea to treat her mother the way she did.

After watching this I am so glad I only have boys.

I also think Katie is a cutie and I can't believe she hasn't cheered before. I was happy to see that the girls weren't all stick figures, but on the other hand, a couple of them actually seemed a little too heavy to tumble. They made me a little nervous.
