There are 2 highschool sororities here - Alpha Kappa Delta and Delta Beta Sigma. ADK seems to be a breeding ground for one of the chapters on campus.

I was watching TV last week and one nite there was nothing on, so I was watching "Wings." That show from the 90's (where they all hung out at the airport) and they made a reference to a HS Sorority. Specifically, one of the cast members had been acused of doing something really stupid in HS and she jiustified it by saying, "oh the things you'll do to get into a High School sororoity." Before that I had never heard of a HS sorority or fraternity.

My step-sister is in a high school sorority called Alpha Kappa Lambda in Prince George's County, MD.

My old high school had one called Cultured Pearls Sorority.

If the school is okay with it, then it is legit.

The town where I grew up had three HS Greek organizations, two fraternities: Delta Sigma and Sigma Phi Omega, and one sorority: Delta Beta Sigma. All three were national organizations. They were not part of the high school, they were part of the town, and drew students from all three local high schools. DBS folded in the early 90s in my town, but still exists on the national level with 13 chapters. The two fraternities gradually lost members until they closed the chapters, but they also have chapters scattered throughout.

The sorority rushed in the summer before school started, and the fraternities rushed in the fall. All three had informal rush in the spring semester to bring in a few members that had been "missed" in the fall. They had adult sponsors, alums who were actively involved, and national rules. Students were not allowed to wear letters to any of the high schools.

A suburb of my hometown has had a high-school Greek system since the 1920s or ’30s that draws from one public school and two private schools. Most of the students eventually go Greek at schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Birmingham-Southern.

Why does that matter? "Legit" is in the eye of the beholder. My best response to the question is "Who cares."

Whatever an HS fraternity is, it can be nothing like a college one. Membership to an organization like that wouldn't prejudice me either way (and I would presume the same is true for my chapter's active brothers) as to a member's candidacy.

If the prospect were a good prospect though, the HS fraternity could make a nice recruiting pipeline.
