Can I just state, for the record, that A&F sizing is madness? I wear a small in skirts there, and given the way I am shaped (i.e. I HAVE AN ASS), there is no way I should ever wear a size small skirt.

the limited used to be like that when I was in college. I wore a 2 in limited stuff then. a 2? I am 5'9 and busty, and wear the same size NOW that I did then and it is NOT a 2. lol

I have two friends who both wear a size 00. However, they're both hardly 5' tall, and weigh a good 90 poubds soaking wet.

Just to make sure that I understand...at A&F, a woman would wear a smaller size than she normally does in Wal-mart clothes or is it just for just higher end clothing such as Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers?

I don't understand how you can have a size 0 let alone a 00.

I understand that some women are very small, don't get me wrong, but size 0 is just ridiculous. 0=nothing. How can you have a size 0?? What's wrong with being a size 1 or is that just too fat for some women?

Size 1 exists at the Gap. It goes 0, 1, 2, 4...etc

I think some people just don't want to accept that they're a larger size and want to be "smaller" even when they're not. Even then, sizes are getting bigger and bigger. I used to take the second smallest size in most clothing stores (before I lost all my baby fat) and then the smallest. Now, even the smallest size is getting a little loose...and I haven't lost any weight.

I also find that a lot of brands from Europe don't make size 00 or 0, even when they are listed in "American" sizes. The smallest I can find at Zara is a 2 (and that's rare), ditto with Mexx. I think the smallest size at H&M is 4.

I'm not sure how A&F compares to WalMart, but in terms of comparing them to other stores around their price range (Express, Limited, etc.), I think their skirts and pants are extremely vanity-sized. Although, for some reason, their tops aren't . . .

I've seen a few stores with size 0, so I know they are out there. It doesn't mean I understand it. If you're a size 0 does that mean you are so small that you don't exist??

I wish that sizes were universal. Stores may carry a size 2, but one company's size 2 may be equivalent to another company's size 4. It would be great if clothing had some standards.

Women need to get over their need for vanity sizing. Besides, if we all wore clothes that actually fit us properly, sizing wouldn't matter because we would all look good, no matter what the tag said.

It's all psychology. They think a size 8 woman is more likely to shop at Banana Republic because she fits into their size 4 skirts.

Part of the issue is that younger and younger girls are shopping at "grown up" stores. I would have never gone into Wet Seal or something of the like when I was 10 - now they do it all the time. These sizes are for them. (Or should be.)

I don't think a 0 is so small that one doesn't exist. A 0 was a 2 ten years ago and perhaps a 4 fifteen years ago. The best way to determine what your size is is to count from the top or the bottom. Say you're a 10 at Store A but a 14 at Store B. Your size may vary, but in both stores, you're the sixth size from the bottom...Store B does not carry 0 or 2. Their smallest size is 4.

But many of the stores that vanity size don't cater to younger girls. Would a 10 year old really shop at Ann Taylor or Banana Republic?

I don't think that's a fair thing to say. If you're like 5 ft tall with a very, very small frame, then it's legitimate for you to be this size. In any case, a size 00 is a 4 in real life anyway.

Before my mom had me, she wore what in the 70s a size 7/8. She's 5'5 and weighed 100-105 at that time. I guess that's probably a 1/2 by 2006 standards.
