I went and saw this movie tonight. It was pretty good. Based on the preview I really wasn't expecting much, but it was funny.

I saw the previews for this last night when I went to see Brokeback. I definitely wanna see Something New!

The movie was good. It was kind of slow in the beginning, but it came around. It did bring out major dilemmas we (AF AM female professionals) face personally and professionally.

If you are a true romantic, you may find your eyes becoming a bit teary. :o

The music was the bomb! I was glad to hear Van Hunt. :D

Even if you are not into the IR thing, we should support this film. It is directed by a SISTA, starring a SISTA, and written by a SISTA! That is something that hasn't EVER happened before.

I hope it does well at the box office. Those who seem to always complain about quality films starring US should have already seen the flick by now. ;)

A refreshing film, indeed! ;) :p

i saw this and "annapolis" last night and i enjoyed both.

"something new" was really well-written and entertaining. i was scared that mike epps would make it a little too slapstick but he didn't. i would definitely recommend everyone see this.

Loveded it! :D Wasn't too "over the top" so to speak.

I'm supposed to go see it tonight. I heard great reviews re: movie and soundtrack.

I saw it last night. I think it was great. Fresh perspective.

I totally agree with your assessment of the film. I liked the angle that they took with professional Black women.

I love Van Hunt! I was singing along when his song came on!

Overall, it was great film, and I really enjoyed it.

just came back from the movie... first, i thought matthew mcconahey (sp?) was playing the lead, which was disapointed when i saw otherwise. what's simon baker ever been in? where would i know him from?

i really thought it would be similar to "deliver us from eva" (which i really wasnt fond of), and it was in the sense that it depicted the "succesful black woman who has it all except love," which lathan's character addresses in the beginning. and that drives me crazy.

however, i thought the movie was decent. addressed important issues, esp. with the hair politics. why blair have to go there like that? i thought the cotillion scene was silly, but after second thought, i see the meaning behind it.
my biggest gripe with the movie was: i didnt think sanaa lathan's character was really into simon baker's character. even through to the end i didnt feel it. i think baker played it up a LOT better.

i'm wondering why the class issues didnt come up? lathan's character definitely didnt seem like she would date a landscaper, regardless of race. wendy raquel robinson's character says in the beginning she doesnt care what her man does for a living as long as he works, and that's followed through when she gets with the cook guy.

stil, thought it was a good movie.

Simon Baker was on the TV show "The Guardian". It was on CBS a few years ago.

I'll probably see it later this week.:)

Great movie!! This was a really great film. I could relate to Kenya's character in so many ways.

Realistic and great cast all around.

unspokenone25 02-05-2006 12:27 PM

Two thumbs up!

Thought it was a great movie and like CT said, I can also relate to Kenya. I think a lot of successful black woman can I identify with her character...especially the list(s) that we make for the IBM.

I think you have convinced me to try and see this. Understand that with DVDs and digital cable, I rarely go to a movie (last one I saw was G back in October).
