I can usually separate politics from music. And we here at Casa Munch love the Dixie Chicks.

I love the Dixie Chicks and always have! I'll continue to go to their concerts and buy their music. So what if they don't llike Bush-I don't either!!
And we're all allowed to say it-whether we're in America, London, Guam, whatever!! |
I'm not a country fan at all, but I do like the Dixie Chicks (yay for their new album being more rock!). What celebrities say/do shouldn't have any effect on whether you like their movies/music/whatever.
And amanda, why do they offend you just because you're a vet? They don't offend me, in any way, and I'm the daughter of a vet who died because of war related injuries when I was 8. Not liking our president, and not supporting the war, in no way means that I don't support the troops. I don't support them being over there, I don't support them fighting in a war that is useless and hypocritical, but I support the troops themselves. I've never understood the big controversy over their comments...everyone has opinions, it's the brave ones that voice them. |

I honestly don't see what's so brave about voicing their dissent. Is it any more brave than anyone else voicing their opinion on politics? They have a right to say what they want, but I don't think it makes them brave or courageous or any of those other flowery terms.

so happy the new cd came out.. went and got it yesterday, plus the presale concert tickets :D
|
I'm excited to get this CD this weekend. I've loved the Dixie Chicks for years. I like what I've heard so far!

And boycotting someone because they have a different opinion isn't going to solve anything. And just for the record, I fully support the Dixie Chicks and what they said. I agree with PhiMuAmberkins- I support the actual troops, not the reason they are fighting in the first place. |

I like how they picked a time when Bush's ratings are at an all time low to come out and say that they take back their apology, and they're not sorry for the comments they made about him. Sure, now that the majority agrees with you, now claim what you said before.

How can people scream "Freedom of Speech for ALL" but then when someone says something offense it's "Freedom of Speech for ALL...certain rules and restrictions apply". There are folks out there whose opinions I just cannot agree with, but if they aren't causing me any harm other than being unpleasant to my ears, then let them say what they want. If someone says "I hate Black people" okay, whatever. But if someone says "I hate Black people" and proceeds to shoot every Black person they see then Houston, We Have a Problem. |

I think the reason people became so pissed is because they are famous and very public people and I think some just assume that these women should just make their music and "keep their mouths shut" when it comes to politics. Which is just completely ignorant. Like you said they are American and the have the fundemental right of freedome of speech. Just because they are famous doesn't mean the right suddenly disappears. I too definately support the troops. My brother is in the National Guard and spent a year overseas, I just don't support the war. They are two different things. My brother didn't want to go over there, but he knew he was doing his job, doesn't mean he liked it. I'm so excited about their new album. It is on ITunes but I haven't had a chance to listen to any of the songs. Are they good? My absolute fave songs from them are Goodbye Earl and Travelin' Soldier |
