I don't know why I find this so funny and why it's making me laugh so hard, but...wow.

Anyway, I think it depends on the person, probably not the answer you want. I know that I am more honest with my friends when I'm drunk, but I "tell stories" to people I don't know/like. My boyfriend is the same way so I think it all just depends on the person.

Drunk = the truth

It is possible that there was some truth in your boyfriend's sincerity but it's hard to gauge. Here are some facts on alcohol.

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. It acts at many sites, including the reticular formation, spinal cord, cerebellum and cerebral cortex, and on many neurotransmitter systems.

Some of the neurochemical effects of alcohol are:

Increased turnover of norepinephrine and dopamine
Decreased transmission in acetylcholine systems
Increased transmission in GABA systems
Increased production of beta-endorphin in the hypothalamus

I broke a romance off while drunk...we were chilling in a jacuzzi when he asked me about our future as a couple. Without thinking I just said, we aren't right for each other, we can only be friends. Although I hated being so blunt (it was hard at first to turn down a guy I still thought was pretty cool), I realized through talking with his friends and gossiping about him that I made the best decision ever to do a drunk break-up.

In my case it took the booze to be so bold, but its obviously something you want to be a "crutch" when you need to tell the truth.

While I was drunk last night I managed to tell the girl that I've been seeing that I don't think I really like her.

She didn't like that so much. I didn't intend to tell her when I was drunk but it kinda just came out.

Who knows, she's older and has a kid anyway and I don't need that mess.
