Theta Alpha is a new Christian sorority that is expanding regionally across Florida and into Georgia. They already have 2 established chapters. I read about them in the Up and Coming GLO section of Greekchat. Website is www.thetaalpha.org

There are several different Alpha Sigmas, as it seems to be a popular name, but this Alpha Sigma has 4 chapters. :) I should have included the webste when I posted it the first time.

Sigma Phi Lambda is another Christian national sorority, and they have a lot of chapters around Texas that I know of. Here's their wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigma_Phi_Lambda

(I couldn't get the www.sigma-phi-lambda.com site to work for some reason.)

Other smaller sororities that I can name off the top of my head would be multicultural ones like Kappa Delta Chi, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, and Theta Nu Xi. I'm not sure if they pertain to this list or if they're in another council or not, but there they are.

I know Kappa Delta Chi does not pertain to the list, they're a NALFO (national council for Latino GLOs) organization. Theta Nu Xi is one of the largest multicultural sororities in the country, but they're not in the NMGC (national council for multicultural GLOs). alpha Kappa Delta Phi is one of the largest Asian sororities in the country, but isn't in any national councils that I know of.

Does anyone know anything else about them( other than then what the website says) they have little droplets of religion in their information.. are they a religious sorority?

kappa beta gamma is not a religious sorority, we're a social sorority that was founded on christian beliefs. however, there isn't much religious affiliation currently (at least i can say that about nu chapter, where i was a sister :) ) also, i just wanted to make a note about the information listed in the first post. while kappa beta gamma, is mostly a midwest based sorority, there is a chapter on the east coast. i just don't like to see my chapter forgotten:p

Alpha Sigma has four different chapters in NY- Brooklyn College, Hunter College, Baruch College, & St. Francis.

That would be me.....

Founded in 1971....13 chapters and 2 colonies and you can update it to the North East area with the addition of 1 chapter and 1 colony in PA. We are actively looking to expand into NJ & MD as well. Our national website is KappaDeltaPhiNAS.org (the one you have is one hosted by our Kappa Sigma chapter)

Although we are affiliated with Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity Inc. We are a seperate national organization with our own Executive Director, Board of Director's, Constitution & By-Laws, etc. We host our annual convention in conjuction with Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity although our General Business Meetings & Board of Directors meetings are held seperately. We co-host a joint Awards Banquet as well as an Alumni Cocktail Party at our annual conventions.

p.s. I love that I found this sight and all of this information is so readily available. Thank you to all who have put the effort into gathering it!!!!

KBG update

Ok, here is the Kappa Beta Gamma update/clarification.

We never were a part of NPC. We never had the chapter numbers when were were interested. By the time we had reached the 7 required chapters, the requirement changed to 14. I have not seen it, but our advisor used to have a copy of the 1977 Bairds manual, where underneath the listings of NPC sororities, Kappa Beta Gamma stands alone as the only non-NPC affiliated social sorority listed. I think that is why so many people thought we were NPC at one time.

We are not looking to become Panhellenic at this time. Aside from not having required numbers, there are other personal reasons why we have no interest. Apparently a decade ago or so, NPC had made an agreement with us that if we reached seven active chapters, they would assist us in expansion to reach the required 14 to gain NPC membership, however we currently don't have that relationship anymore, obviously.

Alpha Sigma Kappa- Women in Technical Studies is interested in expansion. However, it is very difficult for numerous reasons. I think the biggest though is who we pool from for membership. Because we are pulling women from technical fields (architecture, engineering, mathematics, and the sciences) we start with a limited pool. Then, at least in my experience, the women in these fields are generally not interested in greek life, or at best only have an indifferent opinion of it. Partly this is because they are motivated in what they want to do, but also b/c they generally aren't the "pretty" girls of the sterotypical image of sororities.

I know there is a larger interest for this group than what I've been able to see at Oklahoma, but we are seriously overshadowed by the large NPC and IFC presence. (e.g. no matter how hard we try, we are still hidden) :(

Yes Phi Kappa Pi (Clio) is a regional sorority, we have remaining chapters at Geneseo and Potsdam. We originally had 9 chapters throughout the SUNY system before the national ban in 1953.

Another regionally affiliated organization is Alpha Delta~ http://www.geneseo.edu/~ade/ they also have a chapter in Potsdam called ADK

Niche-Market Social Sororities
8. Sigma Alpha Iota (music) - founded 1903, 205 chapters (allows dual membership with other social sororities); www.sai-national.org

I love that we got included here!! Cuz, we are social! Just not NPC cuz we are "special interest". We went social as soon as title IX was released because our national board wanted us to remain single sexed.

From my understanding, groups like Sigma Alpha Iota Sorority and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity had to drop the references to "professional" to receive exemption from Title IX. There are other threads where Phi Mu Alpha brothers explain this whole Title IX thing, but basically after Title IX there is not such thing as a "professional and social" fraternity/sorority. A group is either a social and exempt from Title IX, or a professional and co-ed.

Alpha Omega Epsilon is not co-ed. We fall under Title IX because we are a social sorority, as well as professional. There was a discussion about this at our International Convention and I believe our IEB consulted with our lawyers about this.

Sorry for the bump of the old thread, but I wanted to correct this.

Alpha Chi Sigma

Don't forget Alpha Chi Sigma (known as AXE). It is a national co-ed professional chemistry fraternity. My boyfriend is a member at Syracuse University!

They have this really funny shirt that says: (front) Chemists do it on a table...(back) Periodically (with a periodical table on the back).

The site says there have been 90 chapters chartered with 50 active. It was founded in 1902 at the University of Wisconsin! Although they are a professional fraternity, they also operate as a social organization. At Penn State, they have a house!

They were started at UW! They have a big plaque in the entrance to the chemistry honoring them, which I think is cool. I like seeing a university honor a GLO. :)

They have a house here, too, where they offer free chemistry tutoring. (I took them up on this a lot prior to my MCAT.)
