I thought the movie was excellent.

I'm not a big Johnny Cash fan nor do I know much about him. But Joaquin did a great job of singing and so did Reese.

I did hear though that the family did not like the way June was portrayed in the movie. I didn't think she was negatively portrayed. I just couldn't see what the problem was.

It wasn't June. It was Johnny's first wife that some family members had issues with...at least that's what I heard.

I just got home from seeing this. Considering my ADHD, this is a film that held my attention the entire time. I didn't think it was too long at all. It was a beautiful tribute to their lives.

From what I've read, some family member of Mrs. Cash#1 didn't agree with the way she was portrayed. Keep in mind the movie was made by June and Johnny's son ,John Carter Cash. He said they have every right to disagree but that he was doing the film as a tribute to his parents.

I think Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix definitely deserves Oscars for the performances. Considering neither one had prior musical training prior to shooting they did extremely well.

One of my favorite scenes had to be when June's parents confront Johnny's drug dealer as he is trying to drop off the drugs.

Is it true that Joaquin Phoenix was hand picked by Johnny Cash?

Just saw the movie. Outstanding.

If you like commercial bullshit, then you'll love this movie. If not, then it's a decent movie but that's all.

Awesome.

I didn't think Mrs. Cash #1 was portrayed too poorly. Sure she went a little psycho at the end but who wouldn't if her husband was sleeping around?

I definitely found it much better than Ray. And I really liked Reese's voice.

Did anyone notice that the storylines between Ray and this movie have a lot of similarities?

Drugs
Jail Time
Broken Marriages
Small Struggling Record Labels
Road tours in busses
Comebacks
Mental break downs
Infidelity

I mentioned it to Mrs. DA and she hadn't thought about it until I started listing some of the stuff.

Pretty interesting to me.

There was a critic on the news report who mentioned it must be the new reciepe to getting an Oscar nod.

Went with the boy last night to see it and we both really, really enjoyed it. I don't really know why I agreed to see it since I knew nothing about Johnny Cash and wasn't really a big fan of his music. Still, I really enjoyed the movie, and thought both Reese and Joaquin (sp?) did a phenomenal job!

However, I did not enjoy being woken up this morning by my boy singing Johnny Cash songs into my ear, but I guess that's an entirely different story....;)

Tacky comment I think. The fact is that these things did happen to both men. The movies only retold the stories. If they weren't true, maybe the critic would have a point.

Then again, I'm not a big fan of critics. They often seem to take the title seriously and decide a critic can't like anything.

Don't forget both had a brother die when they were young. And both lived with the guilt that they may have been able to save him.

DeltAlum 11-28-2005 04:17 PM

That's true. I didn't remember that.

Loved it! I can't wait for it to come on DVD because I am going to buy it :)
