Personally, I used to like the happy hour for the free food, not the alcohol. There were a couple of places that stopped their great buffets with happy hour because broke AUC students would buy 1 drink and eat all of their food. LOL |
Having had a daughter at Southern, as well as many kids we know, here is my take on the students there.
15 years ago, a lot of them would've gotten into UGa but now it's very hard to get into UGa. A 1200 may not get you in. If it does, you will get zip in scholarships. So...most of the kids we know who were UGa wannabes ended up at Southern. Many probably would've had the grades but they were *huge* partiers before they left high school. They went off to Southern and continued their partying ways and well, all 7 from our children's high school's class of 2002 flunked out and had to come back. In one semester. Southern has raised the SAT it requires by a lot (it's now 980) but it'll be awhile before the party crowd goes elsewhere. We sent our oldest there in 2000 and weren't worried about her because she's so levelheaded. Would I send another child there? Not one of our partiers. |
Drinking, Yes College Students Do that!
Binge Drinking has become prevelant upon the Age being pushed Lower From Blackmail by the Federal Govt. and Road Funds. Now, instead of Socializing, it is get Drunk as Fast as one can.:( As lifesaver said, 18 can vote, they can die for Our Country, but not drink! It is BS and do not deny it. It has turned Students in to Drinking Fools who Kill them selves! What matter does it matter if it was hazing or partying? They Die! It makes all of us look bad.:( |
Hey, Carnation, just thought I'd add-Georgia Southern's SAT requirement is now up to 1000 for the next fall.

I'm from Statesboro and I will admit there is NOTHING to do in this town but go out. If you want any culture you have to drive to at least Savannah. I was at the City Council Meeting when they had there open discussion on this issue, and I was the first one to get up and speak. My fear w/ them outlawing drink specials, is that students are going to through more house parties where there will be no security, people will feel more secure to drink more, etc. and there will be more problems than there are now. I went to the bar in question (Woodin Nikel) twice a wk, every wk this summer. The stories people are telling are much worse than it actually is, esp. where Ladies Night is concerned. Anyway, I dont' know if anyone else posted this or not, but they did agree to pass the new laws. No drink specials at all No one can order more than one drink at a time (so no buying a round for your buddies) Now one of the club owners is trying to get City council to make buying and possessing a Keg in Statesboro illegal. |
