In a majority of rape situations, refusing to comply further increases the violence and the amount of time the victim is with her attacker(s). Sometimes it does lead to death. If it were that easy to just say no and walk away untouched don't you think she would have?

If you are very drunk and/or drugged, it's highly possible that it would take you a while to notice a guy having sex with you. There have been one or two instances where I was very drunk and kissing a guy, and god, I would have had no clue had he tried to pull anything else. I was barely conscious!

Large amounts of alcohol or drugs would also affect your thought process on how to react . But, as GP is pointing out, if you're in a room with 10 football players, I don't think it's the best idea ever to bite.

You guys are just spitting out variations on the Italian "It's not rape if you're wearing pants" rule and that's ridiculous.

As I read the story, he carried her to his room, laid her on his bed and he took her clothes off. After that, she "noticed" that he had taken off his clothes and was having sex with her. It doesn't say that she resisted in any way, which makes you think of possible drug involvement. Or, it could even have been consensual up to that point. In fact, there is no mention in the article of her putting up any defense until the other seven or so men got involved.

IF the article is anywhere close to accurate, this is a very strange situation that leaves more questions than answers.

One thing is for sure, there's no way a woman (or a man, for that matter) is going to fight off seven football players. That's movie stuff.

The other thing for sure is that a serious crime was committed. I don't think this one could be swept under the carpet by the university or athletic department. Unless there's something really bizarre that we just don't know. I can't even imagine what that might be.

This situation (if it, in fact, occurred) is CLEARLY rape and each of the players should not only be expelled from school but should also be prosecuted.

My complaint with this report is that it paints an unbelievable scene.

And, my comments about oral sex were a side observation. Maybe she could have been forced to perform oral sex.

PEOPLE MUST STOP DRINKING THEMSELVES INTO A STUPOR. It's foolish and dangerous because people will take advantage of you.

You can't control others but you can control yourself. So, while her drunkeness certainly DID NOT warrant or invite rape, if she had been smarter about her drinking choices, we wouldn't be reading a report like this.

Indeed, but the article states that she drank from bottles. And I said, She was smart to go for bottles, especially if she picked and opened them herself. Still, BE SMART about drinking choices.

Naw chile - you can get in trouble in church too! "Christians" are the worst for devious behavior. This girl acted foolishly and was attacked (again, if the report is true) by horrible men who took advantage of her and raped her, plain and simple.

You can still be drugged if someone puts something in your bottle. Unless it's glued to your mouth the whole time, that would be possible to do.

You can hold onto it the whole time, never let it out of your sight...all freshmen should go through basic alcohol awareness seminars!! I was present at one where they said 1) pick your own drink, 2) only drink from unopened bottles or bring your own beverages (never let anyone bring you a drink), 3) keep your drink with you at all time - don't set it down or let anyone hold it, etc.

Jeni, when I was in college and even before, I knew not to accept drinks from strangers and not to leave my drink alone. I went to a party, got my own drink, and held on to it while I talked to a guy. When I turned my head for a second or two, the guy poured some clear liquid in my drink. Luckily, I saw it out of the corner of my eye, got rid of the drink, and got away from him. I wasn't drunk or even close to it. I turned my head because his friend distracted me. I think he poured alcohol in my drink, not a drug.

At the time I didn't really appreciate what could have happened to me. I never thought it could be anything other than alcohol. I just thought that he was a jerk and I had better get away from him. It is possible for someone to tamper with your drink.
