I've been in both situations.
It's great to be free to do whatever/whoever you want. Especially in the greek scene where you meet new people everyday. It's also nice to have a girlfriend that you like and trust and want to hang out with and do things other than just get drunk. |
I was single when I joined DZ, and didn't date anyone seriously until winter of my junior year. There were plenty of girls who had boyfriends and plenty who didn't. It never made a difference... I always felt completely comfortable at our events whether I had a date or not.

I was actually in one relationship or another for all but about 3 months of my college career. I think it was partly because it was just easier to find people to have relationships with.
I have been single for the entire 2 years since I graduated. I think it is yet another thing that is different everywhere. Most of the people I hung out with in college were in relationships. Of course, it could be very possible that someone who was single for all of college would say that most of the people they knew were single. |

I find the use of the word "single" in this discussion interesting. In my recollection, we considered ourselves single until we were actually married. But, it's a generational thing I guess!
I was in a long term relationship through most of college and it was really nice to not have to worry about formal dates, but having a boyfriend had it's own issues. Trying to see him on a weekend was always a challenge. His fraternity would have a social with another sorority on Friday night and my sorority would have a social with another fraternity on Saturday night.. and at Greek Nights at the bar, you felt like you were juggling between the boyfriend and your sisters. There are pros and cons to both situations. |
