Re: Ghost GLO

I'd consider the unaffiliated groups just like another campus club - maybe you would have a mixer with the Lettermen's Club or the Freshman honor society, or with an unaffiliated GLO. No harm done. |
True. Like I said.....IF. Perhaps the Panhellenic and IFC just need to work harder in promoting the recognized groups for membership versus. An article/announcement like this sparks curiosity pointing people in the direction of the unrecognized versus scaring them away. I think the University is CYAing themselves by acknowledging to their student DO NOT JOIN in hopes if something really bad happens. If they try to ignore it, at least outwardly, and concentrate on the other recognized groups their positive efforts would show after some time.

Well, here's the way I look at it. Flame me if you want.
Am I upset that they're calling themselves ASA when they're not registered with our HQ? Yes. Am I upset that they're calling themselves ASA and not having to pay national dues? HELL yes. But there has to be something deeper than partying that has kept this group together for all these years (since 1997) and through all they went through when they lost their chapter. So even if they don't have an official ASA sisterhood, they still have A sisterhood. I have no idea if they are still using official ASA ritual. My bet is no. And there are LOTS of people in all our GLOs that wear letters that we wish didn't. Oh, and according to THE LINK YOU POSTED KDR & Phi Kap joined together to make Phi Delta Omega. |

The school is taking action, the HQ has been notified. Are you trying to rally up troops to take down the big, bad underground chapters??? On a message board? Sometimes I wonder if people just like to "break" stories like this to see their name at the top of the thread and make a mountain out of a molehill. **Granted "illegal" chapters suck, but if TPTB have been notified... then no need to carry on like this. |
Maybe she's just jealous that she couldn't even make it into the Ghost chapter.
Even my wanna-be sisters have more sense then that. |
While it may or may not upset legitimate members that there are groups posing as national groups, we leave it up to our HQ's to handle these situations. We have a chain of command for this sort of thing.
Also, as mentioned, these groups are now acting as unrecognized locals. Some have changed names. More than likely, they are not using rituals in their original form as proscribed by the national group. As 33 said, there is A Sisterhood/Brotherhood there. I don't understand why this issue bothers you so much... maybe you need to talk about it with someone? It seems like an unhealthy attachment. The situation is being dealt with by the university. Have you rushed with unsatisfactory efforts? If this is the case, I do recommend that you get involved with other campus activities and let the university and HQ's deal with this, if it is a legit situation and stop worrying about something that really doesn't effect you personally. Unless of course, someone in one of these groups has caused you personal harm or discomfort. Then you should report it to your university and recover through friends, family and counseling. Good luck. As this topic has been beat to death, could you please stop posting new questions about it? We've all come to a consensus that renegade groups, if identified, should be reported to HQ and University officials, who have the power and ability to make change from there. Good luck to you! |

And yes, for the record, she did rush with unsuccessful results. Look at her past posts. THough she deleted a lot of them, a lot of people in those threads quoted her posts

Not to fuel the fire but...
I worked with one of our Long Island chapters in the late 1990s. There was an underground group which had been an NPC group that closed in the 70s and they were using the name of ABC (a NPC group). I contacted their HQ and they said they had heard the same thing and this group was using the SAME letters! They issued cease and desist letters to no avail. They decided to meet with the group and turns out they colonized there and took the group back into their sisterhood for a colony program. Turns out they did still have a copy of the ritual and it was a very watered down version. I moved away from Long Island in 2002 but a look at my NPC chapter and campus listing shows that group is no longer there. I suspect they were never chartered and ABC retrieved what they needed from the group for good. Can I have a cookie just for sharing? ;) |

Does anyone else always think of that book Mrs. Frisbee & the Rats of Nimh when they see the acronym NIMH? |
