When I filled up my first car in high school for the first time, I told the attendant (it was before self-serve) to put in $2.00 worth of "high test." (The care was an Austin Healey Sprite and needed the higher premium gas they had then.)

Although the gas gauge read emply, $2.00 worth wouldn't fit in the tank.

The car only had an 8 gallon tank, and the gas was 21 cents per gallon.
