Update

Hi All. Sorry Its taken so long to get back here, Ive spent a lot of time at the Dallas Convention Center (shelter) this weekend. At this point I am pleased to say that everyone is WELL taken care of. Children have plenty of toys and even a CPS monitored play area. Between the red cross, salvation army, FEMA, and corporate donations, all needs and even some wants are covered. Thanks to everyone for your input and the things each of you are doing individually. Its great to hear the evacuees tell you that they appreciate you and that they are being treated well. Gotta go, but with the uttmost Delta luv, kathy.

Just got word that a few college students from Tulane and LSU will be joining us here at Indiana University. Our undergrad chapter has already bought school supplies to give out when they arrive. :D

What are relief efforts being done in your area?

Sorors, what are your chapters doing for the relief efforts?

Have any evacuees been transported to your city?

Many DC area greeks are volunteering their time (when needed, because Red Cross has a TON of volunteers) at the DC Armory where about 200 evacuees are. Some of the evacuees have family in the area and have gone home with them.

I have donated food, and clothing to a local church that has adopted several displaced families.

My chapter has decided to include these efforts as part of our sorority year plans. We will continue to provide help when Red Cross needs new voulnteers.

Please note this thread is for anyone to post. :)

My chapter is raising funds towards the frat's national relief effort/s, and hopefully will challenge all other Ohio chapters (college and alumni) to meet or exceed what we do.

There will be discussion at this Friday's Pan-Hellenic gathering about a city-wide event/fundraiser for disaster relief, or at least there will be after I bring up the idea. ;)

I'm sure our chapter will be doing something. I will find out more when we have our first chapter meeting on Saturday. My college, Le Moyne College, as well as Syracuse University have taken in students. We are just starting to receive evacuees in our area. A man was on TV last night from NO speaking about his situation. We are getting more evacuees, I hear, but as far as a number I am unsure.

Here in Ithaca at Cornell we have 300, I think, students from Tulane joining us and I just read in the student news paper today that more will be coming from HBCUs.

I have donated money to the Delta Hurricane Relief Fund.

My chapter has been out in the streets of Columbus collecting donations for the Hurricane Katrina Victims. The campus community has been very generous! We'll also be collecting donations at all of our upcoming programs.

Collectively, the PHC is contemplating throwing a party in which ALL proceeds will go to the relief efforts. Also, there is a table set up in our black cultural center for donations.

A Blessing!

I haven't had much time to post lately, but i want to take a minute to thank everybody thats helping. Gods going to be so busy handing out blessings to you all that he wont time to try to fulfill revelations (no matter what ya grandma say :p )!

As for the stuffed elephant drive, The shelters down here are being we taken care of by corporate sponsorship. But, if anyone wants to use the idea that can implement it in their area (especially easy for undergrads to push) please feel free!

God Bless you all.

My chapter collected clothes and items (pampers, lotion, toothpaste) for the victims and they were sent off today by one of my line sister's employers. We will go back later to do something bigger and have more stuff sent off. We will also vote as a chapter next week on sending something to the Delta Relief fund.

Area wide: Charlotte is doing a LOT!!! There is a gospel concert tonight collecting for the victims here. The local TV station is collecting school supplies. I have tons of school supplies here and will buy more to give to this cause.

My job is collecting food and supplies for the Second Harvest Food Bank. I have donated to that cause.

Tonight one of the radio stations is having a party and 100% of the door goes to the victims as well.

Delta Sigma Theta -- Charlotte Alumnae chapter: Deltas of Charlotte will be collecting money to help families here in Charlotte who have taken in evacuees.

There is a soror who found a home for a family. Several sorors own property and will be allowing families to live there.

Next weekend I will be serving meals at the Salvation Army hotel where 300 evacuees are staying.

Sorors are fired up to help financially or just with their presence.
