Respected Orgs
Tri Lambda and Delta House, yes, I agree. But how can you respect Rho Rho Rho?
Now the Alpha Betas, I bet they have some great alumni support! |

Seriously, how many people on GreekChat have really had to deal with more than one National/International Greek Organization. I find this entire thread EXTREMELY insulting. |

I think that people can probably articulate their reasons for admiring these GLOs. For example, I admire Kappa for their clear support to their chapters, not only keeping them open when another national organization might have closed them, but providing the support to help the same chapters become viable again. (I admire DG for the same thing, and for their commitment to "reorganizing" struggling chapters without kicking out any of the members they feel aren't pulling their own weight.) The Alphas obviously command respect for paving the way for the eventual NPHC, and from everything I know about Sigma Phi Epsilon they are constantly working with innovative programs trying to make Greek life stronger in all possible ways. I don't think there's anything insulting about this thread. Nobody's saying they DON'T respect the GLOs that they don't name. There are plenty of other programs that I have respect for -- Delta Gamma, Kappa Sig, etc. -- that weren't mentioned in my post. It's just that the three I mentioned were the first to come to mind. I don't have to have experience dealing directly with members of their HQ to know whether or not I admire the policies they're putting forth on a national level. |

What's wrong with respect
Honey Chile I have to disagree with you, there is nothing wrong with praising a friendly competitor.
When I say I respect a GLO I mean it, and I mean no disrespect to any other organization. With regards to your observation that most individuals don't have anything but limited knowledge of other GLO's, note I did not list any womens groups because i really don't feel I know female GLO's all that well. |

There are several GLOs I respect on a national level, due to their philanthropies, the way they maintain their leadership roles, their patterns of colonization or closing chapters, etc, etc. There are people I may not particularly care for on GreekChat who belong to a wonderfully strong national GLO, and vice versa. I just don't think this (Major Recruitment Season) is the time to discuss it. I'm allowed an opinion, right? Quote:

Seriously though, 3 organizations I have national respect for besides my own: TKE, PKA and KS -- I'm very much in awe of their expansion programs. While TKE of the 3 in my oponion probably gives their new chapters the fewest tools for success, they make up for it by founding so freakin' many new chapters. They're going to run out of schools to colonize at one of these days :) The other two in my observation have done incredible jobs with their expansion/recolonization efforts. Their national officers do a great job of organizing local alums, chapters, etc. for recolonization or colonization. Having been a significant part of my chapter's colonization, and having received no more than a phone call per semester and an annual visit from IHQ, I see a huge difference in how we initially succeeded vs. how PKA's colonization effort, for example succeeded. There was a huge difference between 5 advisors setting up residence, transfers coming in from other chapters, etc. vs recruiting a dozen guys, handing them some books and telling them "Good luck". -- to be fair, our colonization practices have completely changed from the method I just described. I honestly have no idea how well our system works these days. |
But of course...

sorry wrong post

The problem with some TKE chapters is that they don't utilize the tools and resources that they are provided... There are alumni boards, province advisors, Grand Province Advisors, Province Educational Conferences, Regional Conferences, Rush Coaches, guest speakers - you name it - list goes on... But some smaller chapters don't use these things to their full extent... |
