Hi fellow Cali girl!! I'm rushing at a Cali school too this fall and I'm super excited about it! I adore your idea of using cosmetic names-- I looove all those makeup brands so I really can't be biased one way or the other. Good luck!!

Don't count out your uncle for help. He may know sorority women from his undergraduate days that he can put you in touch with who may may be willing to write you a recommendation. If they are unable, or unwilling, to do so, then hopefully they would be able to steer you to someone who can and will. Or perhaps a contact person for the sorority who will be able to help.

Thanks for the tip...I will call my uncle and see if he can help me out!!! Also-- I am going shopping for recruitment and school clothes this Sunday...any advice on what to wear in sweltering heat???

I don't want to walk around meeting all of my potential sisters with giant sweat stains....

What I am SOOOO thankful for....

So I'm leaving for school in about two weeks..and then rush is about two weeks after that...the excitement is building. I just wanted to take a moment to say how thankful I am for a few things: 1. My family...they are being so supportive of all of my decisions about college..rush included! 2. My friends and boyfriend for being happy for the decsions I've made and am making 3. The opportunity to go to college and have a chance at joining a sorority. Many of my friends are not as lucky as me and do not have the money, time or support to go to college....least of all join a sorority. This is helping me put the whole college and rush thing into perspective so I don't get so nervous!!!!

Good luck at rush. Just remember to be yourself and everyone will love you :)

Have fun and keep us posted!!!

UpDaTeS!!!!!

Ok! So today my roomie and I both registered for recruitment online...so it is official...yay! I'm so excited that I get to go through the whole experience with her...my roommate is so cool. I have heard all these roommate horror stories and that just isn't happening for me!!!! ALSO! I BOUGHT MY PREF DRESS! If you can't tell I'm a little obsessed with clothes. I actually brought it to work today to show everyone there. It is unique and sparkly and definitley shows the social, outgoing side of my personality.

Yeah I'm thinking gold sounds good. If you can't find gold I would go with some really cute (but comfortable) black ones strappy thingys (LOL)

Good luck with recruitment!!!!

Just a note about the recs- since your school's Greek system is on the smaller side (although I don't know how many women are in it altoghether, of course- I'm just going off of the number of groups) recs may not be as big of a deal as at other schools. My school had a pretty small Greek system (just three sororities) and getting a rec was always exciting- we got maybe one every other year (that I know of). It definitely helped highlight that person (after all, there was usually only one at a time!) in a positive light- if someone knows enough to get a rec, then she probably has a better understanding of the Greek system than some of the other women going through recruitment. Just thought I'd throw that out there!

Oh, and that's awesome about you and your roommate going through together. It can be really helpful to know someone else going through a similar experience- and you can have someone to talk to at night when you can't sleep because you're so excited! Maybe she can start a new thread for her own experience, too? ;-) Anyway, good luck with everything- have fun with it and be yourself!

Tomorrow I move into the dorms!!! Nervous and excited! Then rush is only two weeks away. Yay!

DiamondK 08-25-2005 11:44 PM

Tucked away in my dorm!!!!!

Ok...here I am on my own for the first time in my life....AHHHH...good thing I have an awesome roomie! I moved in a few days ago and have been soooo busy with orientation stuff! Today I went to an orientation meeting about greek life and they had sisters from each sorority introduce themselves (they couldn't say which sorority they were in because I guess they have to be quiet about it???? I guess you greekchatters know about that) and be in a sort of panel and answer all of our questions. They all seemed sooo nice and down to earth. They all talked about their individual rush experiences and what was going through their heads. Going to that meeting made me so EXCITED! Rush is in just under two weeks and my roomie and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

the women you met tonight were probably rho gammas and that is why they couldn't tell you where they are from. they will be the people who will help you thru recruitment.

congrats on being on your own!!! i remember that night like it was yesterday...and it was a long time ago.

Good luck once rush starts! I'm going through it now, and it's a wonderful experience!
