Hey Kelly, being a fellow UT-Knoxvillian...I just wanted to wish you the best of luck!! Let me know if you have any questions regarding whatever, the Panhellenic Building can be so hectic! Definitely drink lots of fluids, like everyone else says, if you are going to the second and third floors, it gets super hot up there, especially with a lot of girls in such little spaces, relax and have fun, lots of people rush as sophomores, it shows maturity and I'm so proud that you decided to go through recruitment! I'd love updates, keep me posted, girl!

I have a question about recruitment at UTK - since they do not have sorority houses, but do have very large chapters, how are the parties conducted? Do they have to use ballrooms at the Union or something? I have never been to that campus, so I don't know the layout. I just can't imagine zillions of PNMs and actives in one big dorm at the same time. Does anyone know how it works? Just curious.

hey irishpipes, an answer to your question:

We don't have sorority houses, we do have dorms in which each floor houses a chapter or two. However, when conducting rush, all the PNMs go to the Panhellenic Building which has all of the sorority suites inside. There are three floors with about 3 or 4 chapters on each. And the Gamma Chi's each have a schedule with each group she takes and goes to each of the suites and like all recruitment, goes to the next "house"/suite after a certain alotted time. for the first round, it's basically a big cattle call, where you go around to every suite in about 10-15 minutes. Then the next rounds are after people are cut, etc etc. You keep coming back to the Panhel building to go to the different rounds, unless you are completely cut and then you get a phone call so you don't have to go to the building to find out. But for bid day, everyone shows up to the building and each to own finds their name on a big table and when u open the card it tells you where your new house is and you run up the stairs to the suite where the sisters are waiting :) I hope this helped!
