another suggestion...if you get Panhellenic type activities together with GPhiB, for the love of God take PICTURES. Girls don't want to hear "Oh when we did this service project with the Alpha Xi's, everyone had a great time and was covered in paint...' They want to see pictures of girls working together and having fun. And these photos can also be used for other events as PR tools. If your chapters can get together and focus on perhaps three things...scholarship, sisterhood, service (three S's of Sorority life!) and do joint events for all of them, that would be a great recruiting tool for both chapters. Visuals,people, visuals! :)

Once again, I'm saying this in the nicest, most Panhellenic way possible: Neither one of your two sorority chapters are better than the other. Big deal if one has ONE more member than the other. You're both in the same (small) boat. That's reality. (Maybe everyone needs to hear that). Band together...that makes only 13 of you. It can't be that hard to organize something. If 1 or 2 people don't show, they just miss out on the fun!

And I would absolutely BOYCOTT that Goat Night event...you and GPhiB should refuse to participate together and let campus know that you're choosing not to participate and why. (That is my humble opinion...I'm not telling you that's the best thing for you to do....but I can't see how it's helping you at this point). That is wrong on SOOOOO many levels...

A Keg as a trophy really isn't that classy either, but I can see where it came from.

The issue of women at 2 year schools joining NPC organizations is a topic of conversation at the national level. The answer to this issue today may very well be "no" but that doesn't mean that it won't be considered for the future. Amanda, the issue at your school in particular is helping to raise the topic at a high level. I don't want to raise false hopes but I also don't want you to think that your campus' issues fell on deaf ears. While your campus has been discussing this for a few months, it was only raised to the national level by your greek advisor recently.

NPC is in a state of evaluation currently and the best NPC minds are looking at how NPC conducts business as well as how the agreements are impacting all 26 organizations on all our campuses.

Unanimous agreements are not changed overnight - and for good reason. Be patient and look for things that you can control to make your group stronger instead of focusing so much on what you cannot control.

amanda, if there is no alpha xi delta architect in your area, you might settle for an architect from another sorority. i feel certain that if you tell her that you are trying to promote greek life on your campus & that a lot of women on your campus are arch.majors she would be sympthatic to that fact and could tailor her presentation to that.

Although I can completely see where you are coming from in wanting to recruit from this very large pool of women I can also see the alternative point of view. As a nursing student I can say that the two years spent in my upper nursing major were extremely strenuous with clinical and classes that are very time consuming and important. I don't think I would have been able to balance being a new member (which brings a time committment many women need to adjust to) and still maintain the focus I wanted in nursing clinicals.

Additionally, I have been on the Panhellenic Council at my school for the past two years in two different positions (President and VP Standards). I held these positions during my Junior and Senior year. I feel that most women that become really involved within their chapter or the Greek community do not do so until their second or third year. It would be difficult for a chapter if half or a quarter of the membership was not able to become involved to this level because they would be graduating soon after joining.

First i'll point out that this thread is over a year old.

Second, I will point out that nursing students do not have the monopoly on strenuous majors and classes that are "time consuming" and "important". Not only did my chapter have a number of nursing majors (I went to Pitt,which has a pretty damn good nursing program) who were able to balance their time (even when pledging during a semester where they had clinicals), but we had women of many other demanding majors. Of course, if a person doesn't know how to manage their time, they may run into a problem, but that isn't in an relation to what major they are.

Boy, I wish Emily Butterfield was around! She was one of the Alpha Gamma Delta Founders and the 1st Female Architect in Michigan (among other things, lol).

On another side note, I remember when the Greeks at Southern Tech (as it was named back then) were installed. I went to the Sigma Nu installation dinner.
