I'm sure I'll post more on this topic later, yet here's my input on the shoes -
I want tennis shoes *similar* to what was done in the movie "Father of the Bride" (the more recent version, I guess..is there more than one???) I prefer tennis shoes anyway, and I'll just pick up a pair of Keds type shoes and let my mom decorate to her heart's content - we've done this as a gift for the last two brides whose wedding I have been/will be in, and they absolutely loved them! |
I can't find an online photo of the cake that I had planned, but it was an azure blue, with a dotted swiss design and a monogram, on a square cake. I did, however, find this site for a bakery artist. This is one of her more traditional cakes:
http://www.superweddings.com/fancycakesbyleslie2.jpg One more thing about wedding cakes: there is a WONDERFUL bakery around my area (ask any of 'burgh people about Bethel Bakery!), beautiful, delicious - the best cakes I've ever seen. Anyhow, I was at my church's Wednesday dinners, and I mentioned that the owners of Bethel Bakery go on a two week vacation in the summer. One of the women there changed the date of her wedding just so she could have a Bethel Bakery wedding cake!! |
I am TOTALLY enjoying this thread, even though my time has come and gone..way gone...and I hope I'm not planning one for my kids anytime in the future. Play on!:D And don't forget-more pictures of cakes, tables, and of course, song lists!

Should I marry again, I would want to marry at Christmas time (think of the money saved on flowers, at least at my church!), and instead of any of the traditional bridal music, I'd like Twila Paris' Sanctuary as the processional. If money is no object, as Brianna says, I'd like to have Twila Paris as the accompanist to the music pastor at my church - I LOVE her voice/music! And, when I was planning to marry the former mr. honeychile, the main song to start the reception would definitely have been Etta James' At Last!, and a healthy dose of Nat King Cole would have been played! |
This is close to what we had planned (well, as close as I've found online, so far). The biggest difference is that the cake would have been azure blue, with white trim (like a dotted swiss) & monogram, and the flowers would have matched the bouquets:

Honey, I love this cake!! And I've never seen a monogram on a cake before! Neat!

Here is the cake I really want, it is actually from the March-April 2003 Brides Magazine (I tore the picture out then):
http://www.bovepastries.com/BPI_Images/Wedding_23.jpg I know it is hard to see, but the cake has "love" quotes written all over it. And the prose can actually be customed. I really want a simple cake and small. I've also thought about getting cheesecakes: http://shop.thecheesecakefactory.com...ails/05420.jpg White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle http://shop.thecheesecakefactory.com...ails/05160.jpg Oreo Cheesecake http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/...Strawberry.jpg Fresh Strawberry on Plain Cheescake http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/...rryTruffle.jpg Chocolate Raspberry Truffle I also like the Boston Creme Pie Cheesecake, but the Cheesecake Factory website is being tempramental right now. |

I'm probably the only ADPi not counting bridesmaids...
If I ever marry, I'll elope to someplace tropical and then take the money that would have gone into a wedding for a house and a yearly "honeymoon." And maybe once we hit that one year mark we'll have a fabulous formal party for our family and friends... I just don't enjoy a lot of the weddings I've attended, mostly due to the lack of attention to the more important details for the guests' experience. |
Ok, Brianna- I am coming to your wedding just so I can eat the dessert!!! OH, wait- that might sound rude- fo course I will be there to honor and support you. The dessert will just be an added bonus! :D
|
Well of course you have to be there!!!!!! :D
Dessert is just the added bonus. |
Just out of curiosity, has anyone else heard of this type of wedding reception? I went to one in Baltimore, and it was held in this huge, almost warehouse looking place (on the outside). On the inside were seven different "halls" for receptions, and lots of places for photo ops - a waterfall, an old bridge over a stream, a rainbow, a fountain, etc - pretty nice!
Each of the halls had the head table at the front, and the dance floor in front of that. One either side of the dance floor were the tables of people. When the food was served, carts came down the dance floor, and platters of (delicious!) food were served, family style. Afterwards, there was a table with at least a dozen different cakes and other desserts from where you could help yourself. It was a first for me, but I thought it was fairly efficient - especially when I heard the approximate price! For the aethestics, the bridesmaids each wore a plain hunter green sheath style gown, and carried a bouquet of a different color of rose - yellow, red, white, pink, and coral. Amy's dress was her mother's, which is always nice, and each tier of the cake had one of the colors of the bridesmaids' bouquets. It was very pretty! Oh, and as I'm asking about traditions, does anyone do "the money dance", when someone puts money in a box/bag/apron and then can dance with the Bride or Groom, or is that a Baltimore thing, too? |
except for my friends wedding, which I was in and the reception sucked, all the weddings I have gone to recently have done the money dance. I personally don't like the money dance, I think it's tacky, so I won't be doing it.
I just don't like the idea of making people pay to dance with me at my wedding, when they are supposed to be a guest. See where I'm coming from. I already know a few songs that must be played: Father-Daughter dance: Butterfly Kisses Misc. music: Dancing Queen, We are Family, Celebration. I also have to admit that I love the fun ones you do in high school like the Electric Slide and Chicken Dance. LOL. |
