I kinda love her.

I think it's really stupid and immature. I read the spoiler due to an icon in some LJ community before I'd read that part of the book, and I'm not going to be pissed off about it because HI IT'S JUST A BOOK, but on the same time, I don't get what the point of caring that much about ruining other people's fun is just because you don't like it because HI IT'S JUST A BOOK.

Harry Potter is probably one of the best things that has happened to kids in the past ten years -- I don't mean to be a future English teacher, but it has basically exponentially multiplied the number of kids that otherwise would be reading -- and it bothers me that so many people are not only so down on it, but are actively trying to ruin that. I don't have any problem with people with people who have no interest in reading the book, but why do you have to screw it up for other people who are enjoying it? That just seems tacky and junior high to me.

Oh, and I'm finished now so you hussies can't ruin anything for me. :p

I don't know -- I mean, some stupid ass Harry Potter fans have ruined LJ for like the past week with all their 900,000 posts about that shit, so I can't really blame her for wanting to mess with them.

I don't care about it enough to mess with people to that extent, but it's kind of funny to me.

How about Harry Potter fans who didn't post about it in LJ but got the book ruined for us anyway? I mean, I'm not insane about it but I could have done without learning the ending before I read it.

It just seems pretty immature to me.

LOL until now I didn't know there was such a thing. ;)

I can't believe my mom took my little sister to one of those book release events. Who on earth would WILLING subject themselves to 4-5 hours of screaming kids? (I offered to take her to the movies with me, but she said no.)

midwesterngirl 07-17-2005 05:32 PM

I went to a book release event and frankly there were probably more teens and adults then there were small children. If not they were pretty equal all the way around.

33girl 07-17-2005 07:58 PM

I haven't read any of them because usually when everyone says OMG IT'S SO WONDERFUL about a movie, book or album I end up hating it because it doesn't give me an orgasm and leave a Ferrari at my door.

It's wonderful that kids are reading and this excited about books though, so I'll put up with the nuttiness.

I'm not the type to spoil the ending of a book or movie for anyone. I'm just staying under that rock, and enjoy the munchies with the other non-Potterheads around here.

Someone want to pass those wings? They're delish! :)

Hey, leave us Harry Potter haters alone! You lovers have your own thread!

A friend of mine took me to see one of the Harry Potter movies. It was the best nap I had in a long time.

For real.

I bet the guy involved is dying of embarrassment about now...

I too shall join the party going on under that rock.

Seriously, I saw pictures of people dressed in character the night the book was released.

Some of these people are just way too fucking obsessed, and these people need to get a life because the world does not revolve around Harry Potter.

I have no intention of reading that shit (or paying $30 for a stupid book) or watching any of the movies.

It just seems pretty immature to me.

It seems pretty immature to me that adults are OBSESSED with a children's book.

I'm all for children reading or if parents are reading it to their kids, but wtf is up with updates on which chapter you're on, what part you're at, OMG I can't believe so and so dies blah blah blah.

I feel that an adult obsessed with these kinds of things-- HP, Star Trek/Wars, Disney-- need a reality check into the present. Sure ok for entertainment purposes ok, but when people are dressing up for book selling parties or opening or whatever you wana call it.... reality check.

I don't think there's anything wrong with dressing up for things like this any more than there's something wrong with people who wear grass skirts to Buffett every year. Not to mention the guys in my office who talk about golf ad nauseum.

As long as it doesn't affect your job or your real social life - i.e. you can't go on a date without talking about it - it's harmless. Everyone needs an outlet of some sort.

Oh, and as far as the virginity girl is concerned, if I made a list of the movies I saw that were better than when I lost my virginity, I'd have, like, a long list. :)

I agree...Look at all the people who dress up and go to the Rocky Horror picture show every year. I just think you don't have to involve the whole world in your hobby.

OTW, what are you bringing to the rock party?
