I always wear a purple one from Urban Decay because I'm not fond of animal cruelty.

I have a couple.

"Remember #40"--I got that one from The Pat Tillman Foundation. Pat Tillman was the NFL player who quit football to be in the military. He got sent to Iraq and was killed. They were giving em out free, so I decided to get one.

Then there was a 10 year old girl from my church who died suddenly from an asthma attack...and so to raise money for an asthma walk, they made those wristbands out in her memory.

I dont have a l ivestrong but a couple of my friends do.

I still see them on occasion in Austin, especially now since the Tour De Lance is going on and he is from here.

Go Lance Go!

I know a few Fraternities on my campus who sold wristbands that supported their philanthropy, and the money went to them (the charity) as well . I thought that was pretty nifty way to have both awareness and philanthropy at the same time. Also, it was pretty successful.

Im guilty of just getting a Live8 one

The only one I own is a Pirates one, which one of my stuffed animals is sporting as a collar for a slight BDSM look.

I have 2 breast cancer ones: A Canadian Breast Cancer one and a Susan G Komen one in memory of Mr. 1228's aunt who died almost a year ago.

I have a Livestrong one in memory of my Beta Sigma Phi sister Trish, and my former coworker and friend Valerie. Valerie died last September and Trish died this past January. My 15 year old stepson has taken this one from me

I also have a red Take Heart Alpha Phi bracelet

yes I wear them

I agree with the fashion ones being stupid--that the money doesn't go anywhere useful. But I feel it goes the same for any magnetic ribbon that is sold at a retail store. Those were also meant to raise money for a cause.

It's not so much a philanthropy if the fraternity was keeping some of the money. That's called a fundraiser.

Sorry. I just hate when people call somethihng a philanthropy and the chapter collects on the event also.

Well, I agree... but like I said... it IS philanthropy... the proceeds go to their cause and the cause gets the awareness as well. Sorry if confused you. They dont take from the profits

Okay I think these armbands have gotten a little out of control. I decided this when my (now ex) boyfriend came home wearing a "Git R Done" armband. It was so absolutely dorky and from what he could tell, wasn't designed to support ANYTHING. And he wonders why we broke up...

My blue PCAA one broke :(.
I just got myself a New York Yankees one that I've been wearing

WLFEO 07-12-2005 08:02 PM

I have one that says "Red Sox Nation" that I wear most of the time.

bluefish81 07-12-2005 09:31 PM

I have two. One if from one of the marketing reps in the office. He bought enough purple wristbands for lymphoma (spelling?) that he's currently battling. Alsmost everyone in our office is sporting that one.
The other is for the Epilepsy Foundation.

I have a very good friend who is a Hodgkin's Disease survivor, and he wears his LiveStrong band all the time. He's taken a LOT of abuse for it (he's in his 50's), but as he says, he'd rather take the abuse & be alive to take it than the alternative!

I've been toying with getting the "Paws for a Cause" from the Animal Rescue site, but I probably won't wear it until sunscreen season is over.
