scho5148 I agree about the salads and along the same lines I wish we had something besides sweets for dessert every day. While they were all very delicious, I'm definitely not use to having 2 desserts a day. Some fruit would have been nice...

FYI...all of the Convention planning, including meals, etc. is done by the Meeting Planner at Executive Office & Grand Council.

At almost every Convention I've been to (except Cincinnati where we had Chicken for 4 or 5 meals in a row) there's a seafood meal at least once...just as there's usually beef at at least one, etc.

I wasn't there for the ORIGINAL Chicken Dance, though I've seen it re-enacted!

Yeah, the meals are pretty formal in that you have a salad and dessert for both lunch & dinner. I wouldn't expect it to change too much... In the future, we should advise first timers to list ANY dietary restriction (and maybe list PREFERENCES as restrictions). However - one year I was a veggetarian and listed that as a restriction. Well, I got my veggie meals... but usually there was a delay in getting served, thus holding up my table from eating. And, the veggie meals weren't half as good as those with meat. (Seriously, I'm not just saying that as a meat-eater; the veggie meals were LAME.)

That's odd, about the veggie meals! I learned years ago to order a veggie meal, and it's usually MUCH better than the usual one. Plus, you get sick to death of so much moo.

One place served me a platter of crudites & dip AND a plate of ratatouille!! That was wonderful!!

Yeah, for my one convention meal this year, the veggie alternative was quite lame. It was what, a pile of green beans and some potatos, I think? It was also not entirely warm. Seriously, it's not hard to throw together vegetarian meals. Put some veggies on top of some pasta... I don't know. We don't just eat salad!
FD, I think we just threw off their routine by not being able to register when they said we could :p

Since I do eat chicken, that's pretty much what I had at every meal - not that it was *entirely* bad, yet I was kinda sick of chicken by the diamond banquet on Saturday night! :D

My best friend called me last night all excited. (She's the new president of the Brazos Valley Alum Assoc.) She decided that now that she and I are both AA officers, we HAVE GOT to go to convention in '07! So, we're gonna plan on being there! I am WAY excited about this!!! :)

If things work out for me financially I will be there for sure! My chapter and the chapter I advise are up for Golden Lion! This would be the first time for Gamma Theta-- second for Beta Tau!

adpi*violet 10-05-2005 02:58 AM

I'm going to try to go also! Probably won't be as a voting or any other kind of official delegate (unless I get picked to represent ADPi as an officer of some sort, which would be awesome!)

I don't feel like digging through my files, but I believe that at this past summer's Convention the position of Meeting Planner was eliminated. It was decided that this was an unnecessary position.

honeychile 10-17-2005 09:36 AM

We had an Alumnae Association meeting yesterday, and I have to say, this new group is AWESOME!!!! They are just so on fire - we're committed to the Lion's Share program, and we decided to try to start saving for the Convention. We're going to try to have AT LEAST 50% participation!

The position of meeting planner is still an active staff position at Executive Office... there hasn't been a discussion of eliminating this job as far as I was aware (being on Council last biennium) and the meeting planner recently helped plan the SLT meeting and was involved with the building dedication...
