You need to come to Thanksgiving with me this year. :D The Dems want to pull out of Iraq completely, I'm all for that. The flat tax is not a bad idea. The only bad thing about it is that a lot of CPAs will be out of work and their college degrees worthless. It works well for the wealthy-middleclass and the poor. The poor would receive incentives on essential items such as groceries. It will make a complicated system much more simple and leave less room for people to cheat on their taxes. On the SS issue, I'm upset that he hasnt done anything about it yet because he campaigned that if elected he'd reform it. Clinton never promised to reform SS, Bush did. And the scary thing is, if it's going to be done at all....it has to be done by the end of the summer or it wont be done at all. I love the skank comment, it made me laugh on a morning I need it most. Employees Suck! :o |
During the election, when people asked who I was voting for (and by "people," I inevitably meant friends of the guy I was dating -- cause I think everybody knows that's kind of a rude question) I always said, "Bush, because he's way cuter."

President Bush has offered ideas that would help SS like he has promised. It was the lovely left that said they wouldn't help with any soultions until he took private accounts off the table.
The only ones to blame SS issues on is every elected offical which we put in office. If the SS surplus that was left over EVERY year was left alone and not filtered into vote wining programming we would have money earning interest instead of wondering where our 14% has gone. As for a flat sales tax I am sure when and if this comes to the senate/house floor it will be the left that doesn't like the sound of it not the other way around. This is the first issue you and I agree on by the way, cashmoney. A flat tax would be much better since no one in the country understands that there is no other country that is funded by income tax alone, hence the reason we have to take funds from SS to make the bottom line. And if retail items were the only things taxed then the "rich" would still be the ones paying more and that always makes some sleep much better at night. But the plan still allows for property tax and individual state taxes to be added as well and I think that would be kind of difficult to regulate. I'm not a registered republican but I am sure they wouldn't want to lose you! |
Let's be fair. While the "lovely left" was certainly against his plan, so were a number of Republicans -- and if you believe the polls, a majority of the American public.
It also appears from casual observation that the more he "stumps" for the idea, the lower the idea goes in those polls. |
No matter what any poll has to say, it is a good idea, that seems to be good enough for the elected officals that have the same system in place for their SS. I think if the govt. will use my SS contributions and the contributions of my employer that matches my 14% I would like a say in where some of it would be going and if I can insure that it will be tucked away without it being used for something other than SS I would feel much better.

Most of y'all are red staters, who voted Dubya in for 4 more years... I was a blue stater--I may have not liked Kerry--but anything but Boosh was fine with me... Now y'all made your bed--so you outta lie in it... Draft re-instatement will commence... And if you believe you will have a better return with Dubya and his team deciding where to put your hard earned money from SS, I've got some beautiful land to sell you in Antartica--just send me your credit card number and my operator's are standing by within the next 15 minutes... |
The govt. doesn't operate that way b/c no one will listen to anyhting to do with private accounts. As a tax payer and an employer I would like less govt. as possible in my life and if we could see where our money goes it would be better. With me in charge of a portion of the money I HAVE TO GIVE each pay period it would make me feel a little better at night that I was incharge of what monies were where and how much interest they gain. Instead of how it is now we pay 14% each paycheck and still have to save for our own retirement, not to mention income tax at the end of the year, property tax and so forth.
The rate of return of SS has nothing to do with who is the President. The point of private accounts is that no one can touch a certain portion of your money except you not even the govt. |
