Sorry to crash on your forum, but the Barnard/Columbia relationship is something I'm pretty familiar with because a lot of my friends go to both Barnard and Columbia. The relationship between the two schools is extremely co-joined, boys and girls can take classes at either school, Barnard students can live in Columbia housing, and vice versa. My friends that go to Barnard even have a Columbia email address. My best friend is a Barnard student, but for the past two years has lived in Columbia housing with girls from both colleges so I didn't even know which girls went to which school. One of her housemates was also a Barnard girl, and she's a Sigma Delta Tau there. Barnard and Columbia are pretty much treated as one single entity and Barnard girls have the same rights as Columbia girls do on matters of joining a sorority. Even though sororities may be closed at Barnard, this doesn't forbid Barnard girls from joining chapters in Columbia.

This thread is pretty interesting to me because my friend and I were wondering a little while ago why both AOII and AEPhi aren't at Columbia when both of their Alpha chapters were at Barnard.

I was near Columbia two weeks ago and stumbled upon the fraternity and sorority houses. Nice! I thought that I saw an Alpha Chi Omega house as well as Pike and a few others. The area has really changed in the past few years with lots of restaurants and housing. It seems like a fun neighborhood.

Barnard was our Beta chapter and AOPi's and AEPhi's Alpha so it would be nice to see the school open for expansion.

It's funny. When my friend went to Barnard, she said that the women students at Columbia College looked down on the Barnard students. There was a real distinction between the schools about 15 years ago. Columbia College has only been admitting women since 1983.

Do you know the years when DPhiE was at Barnard?

Beta was chartered in 1920, and it closed in 1923. I think that Barnard closed all the sororities in 1923. I am 90% certain this is accurate information.

HHHMMMM....This is very interesting. Were there other social Greek groups then? 1920 is actually 4 years AFTER the "official close" and 7 years AFTER the "no more recruitment edit."
Anyone else know of a post 1916 group? Wow....
