I've been micromanaged... that's pretty bad. Since we were contracted work and basically sucking our contractee dry with all our OT, our manager was scared that the company would cut our contract (or just hers) if all of her employees didn't look busy. So she would go around to people's cube every 2 minutes making sure our eyes were on our computer screen and our programs were running. It got really rediculous.
Gosh... when I was at a small company for over a year, my boss asked me "So how are you still here?" It could be worse. |

That's not poor management. It's careless, maybe, but not poor management. It's not your boss' job to remember things like your anniversary and your birthday -- that's what boyfriends & moms & your sorority sisters are for. :) That's why they call it "work"...... PS - it's OK to demand a raise -- e.g., "I've been here a year, I've done X, Y, and Z above and beyond the call of duty, was reccomended for ABC award, and others in my position in this industry make X% more than this position pays." Just be ready with another job on the line if your demand isn't met! |

You created this thread in hopes of getting sympathy. The GCers are letting you know things could be worse. If the biggest problem I had with my boss was him forgetting my work anniversary, I would've been a happy employee! To many on this message board who have worked for several real tyrants, your problem with your boss seems trivial. This is not the only boss you will have as I suspect throughout your career that you will work for several different companies. You will have some great bosses and some really bad bosses. My advice to you is to not get upset over something like your boss forgetting your work anniversary because you will probably find in your lifetime that it could much, much worse. Don't sweat the small stuff. If you're truly unhappy, find another job but in the meantime, keep working hard and be cordial to your boss. |
When your boss wakes you up at 8AM on a Sunday to come into work because he flew out to his Hamptons estate early, then be upset.
When your boss thinks the report in front of him is phenomenal and thanks someone who had nothing to do with it when you spent 100 hours in the past week working on it, then be upset. When someone asks you to print their work for them because they're out of the office and your boss asks detailed questions on that work and yells when you have no idea what he's talking about it, then be upset. Man, I've learned the one thing that keeps you afloat (not ahead but at least afloat) is a wonderful quality of not bitching. I'm hoping that you don't bitch at work and only on this website. -Rudey --Now excuse me while I go yell at people below me and make them feel like ants! |
Why are people being so negative & nasty to UlChiOCutie26? I've read & responded to the thread & she just wanted to let off some steam yet people took it upon themselves to tell her that things could be worse. Perhaps they could be but everyone has a different life & while some of us may have had worse experiences, maybe this is her worst one. I don't think it's fair for people to jump all over her just b/c her story isn't as bad as yours. Lighten up people.

As opposed to you who does not take things seriously?
To everyone that's posted, that's small peanuts compared to other crap bosses do. It's hard to sympathize with someone who's boss forgot their anniversary when there are much worse things that could be going on. I'd hate to be your boyfriend/husband if he forgot your anniversary or birthday! This sounds serious & not light-hearted to me. If anyone is taking her rant too seriously, I think it's you. Your attitude isn't exactly inviting hugs and kisses either, so don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. |
I hate the dude I work for. He's an asshat.
I'm self employeed. |
LOL!
|
95% of all bosses are crappy. It's usually a prerequisite. Those who can, do. Those who can't, manage ;)
|
I was going to complain about my underpaid on campus job, but you guys seem to have waaaaay worse bosses then I ever had.
Carry on :) |
To answer the original question, YES.
I'd elaborate, but I'm at work:p |
my old boss was kind of crazy - everything had to be done completely neatly and in such perfect order .. EEK!!
my new boss is a fun time though. he a young guy, so that helps out ALOT .. and he even asked me to tag along tomorrow to some golf tourney with him and some of the other people that work here ... lovely. i cant really complain anymore about my boss being nuts - the only thing i can complain about is the pure fact that i am so bored for 9 hours a day  cant have the best of both worlds though!! :D |
