I recently got into a minor catfight at a store because I laughed at the $270 price tag on the "handbag that looks like it should be carrying diapers & formula". Just because it has "somebody's" name on it, doesn't mean I couldn't make the same thing! Although, I admit that I did date a guy a bit longer than I would normally have done, because he let me drive his classic 'Vette. :D I don't see that as shallow so much as an opportunist streak I had in me at the time! |
I swear I wouldn't trade a Prada for my $3 walmart purse...everytime I have it I get all kinds of compliments on it. It's just barely over checkbook size, black, and has a cute red embrodiry, which is all I need...cash, debit card, licence, and my electronic key for work is all I need.
I guess you could say that I'm shallow when it comes to designers, but in a reverse way...I tend to think when I see someone with designer something (especially something butt-ugly) that no one could possibly just love that particular article/accessory so much that they would be willing to pay that price (esp. when there's always a knock off if you just like how it looks) without taking into account the status of the label. (Wow, that was kinda hard to explain, I hope that makes sense). Either way, shallow I can deal with, fake I can't. Esp. people who act nice around you and then talk about you behind your back. I can deal with people I get along with (obviously), I can deal with people I don't get along with, but when you are one of those hot-cold people that you never know what to expect, I don't deal well with that. |

As much as you think you know women, you really don't. There are some women who do want the nice guy and won't up with shit like yours. |
I'll admit it, I'm shallow. I buy expensive brand name things solely for the name sometimes, even if I know I can find almost the exact same thing at 1/10 of the price.
I drive a brand new Lexus that I didn't pay for and I highly enjoy that fact and if anyone ever tells me to my face that I am materialistic, shallow, or stuck up I won't deny it. And I find guys that wear nice more expensive clothes and drive nice cars more attractive. So what? I would never not be friends with someone b/c they buy their clothes at Wal-Mart or something, that's stupid. But I don't think my enjoyment of expensive material things makes me an awful person. I have deep parts to me as well and I'm happy with myself. This might be the only time in the history of the world that I will ever say that I am similar to Cashmoney in any way at all. ;) Seriously, there are a lot worse things a person could be in my opinion than materialistic and shallow. Now I will sit back and wait to get flamed for this post. :D |

Wow. I'd say you've got some cold feelings towards me. :D |
I have no problems with materialistic people.
I'm annoyed by shallow people, but I can't be too hard on them because I'm shallow in certain ways also. My life has been pretty much destroyed by fake (and insincere) people....until I started distrusting almost everyone in my life. |
That's perfectly fine. I'm not saying you're bad cause you have daddy's money, I'm saying you're bad when you think you're better than someone else whose less fortunate in that regard. If you treat "the janitor with the same respect you do the queen of england" (or whatever overbite said), then it's chill.

And who is overbite? Hahaha. |

Well I don't. That janitor could get ahead in life if he quit being lazy and got a job doing something else other than cleaning up puke from little 3rd graders. Don't you realize that most of those janitors are too busy smoking weed all day to really give a shit about anything? |
Doing blow off the stomach of a model is shallow?

I see no reason to flame you, FAB*SpiceySpice. You know what you want, and you obviously know how to get it. I think you better articulated what I said about having an opportunist streak in me. If I like something that's expensive and I have the money, I'll buy it. If I like something that isn't expensive, and I have the money, I'll buy it. I set my limits by Mr. Visa and the skills I know that I have. I can still remember my parents taking me to Europe for the first time, and getting me "suitable" clothes first. My dad wanted to contact a certain designer to have them sponsor my trip - AND sent them several photos of me in her spring line of that year! Funny, I just came across the photos this weekend.
As has been stated, the key is to treat people by themselves and not by whether or not they own a particular designer's spring line, which a few people just can't seem to understand. |

You know, I've heard of that a couple of times, but the logistics kind of confuse me. It just seems like it'd be a lot harder than, say, blow off the stomach of a model. That I can picture.
