amazing insight for a NEWBIE, one would think that others would try to be so astute.

A question was asked, and all He got was a lot of crap.

Just as a matter of Point, I too am interested in finding what BGLOs think and why it is different using some sense, and not bringing up why Blacks were, are, have been, and going to be down trodden.

Yes, I do have Black Brothers who are very good Brothers to me, and I know Brothers of BGLOs who are also Friends of Mine. Is there a problem with that?

I like this thread, personally. It's an honest question that Robert asked and others, such as myself, are intrigued to delve deeper into the subject. I'm all about learning and it's best gained through mutual conversation without apprehension.

As for the hesitance, it's not as if it's hard to see what motive some people take to, especially though the various posts that they have written their cheeky, yet inane replies to.

Wolfman, if you have any knowledge of your fraternity that you wish to share with me, that'd be awesome. :) We have an Omega Psi Phi chapter on our campus, they are pretty quiet but cordial.

In terms of the original question, in my knowledge, most BGLOs don't have "patrons," tutelary Greek deities,even though for DST Minerva does have some significance. For my Fraternity, of which I know most about, Christian ideals have played a central role in shaping the ethos of the organization. Our first Grand Basileus(national president), Edgar Love, was a Methodist PK and was ordained to the Christian ministry and became a United Methodist bishop.

It generally has to do with Greekchat dynamics. The BGLO members on this site are not necessarily reluctant to discuss with non-BGLO members off of this board. Even certain non-BGLO threads and/or individuals are entertained depending on who asks what and how.

If you weren't a newbie and had read the threads that led up to this thread, you would have a better platform to speak from.

There were 3 or so posts on the first page that addressed his question. If those posts were crap to you then you have no respect for the "BGLOs in NPHC" perspective and you should remove yourself from this thread.

The cheering session and snipey side comments are not necessary if you want to keep this thread on topic and growing without further distractions.

Who's being defensive? Some people on here feel inclined to entertain questions like these while others feel inclined to leave it at a simple "look it up". This is not unlike what happens in life off the 'net. I'm sure the people who are truly curious can find a way to get their questions answered.

What responsibilities and challenges are you speaking of specifically, and how do these responsibilities and challenges relate to anything that is going in this thread?

One thing I was going to say was that if you are truly and sincerely interested in BGLO life, and I believe you are, then try to attend / participate / and talk to BGLO (NPHC) members in the area where you live. I think a personal one-on-one conversation will give you a lot more insight than back and forth discussions via the web.

Please understand that we, NPHC members, are constantly being asked about what we do, how we do it and why we do it. There is so much about us, as I am sure there is about any organization, that it is hard to address everything at once.

To RACooper and others, then best advice I can give is like I said above, resarch BGLOs in your area. We are very active in the community. Here in Houston, we have a very active NPHC chapter consisting of 19 grad chapters from the D9. So, on any given weekend of the month, ususally excluding July and August, there is a D9 sponsored community activity. These events are well publicized in the newspaper, on tv and radio, so one can not miss most events.

Also, like my soRHOr said, read a book. There are threads on here which mentions books written about the D9. Surf the web. Anything that is on a web site is public information, if it is not on the web site, then you don't need to know. ;)

No one is trying to be defensive. If you read threads in the D9 forums on this board you will notice that we (NPHC members) are telling you the same thing we would tell a pnm who is interested in our org.

I think someone should just create an all encompassing BGLO website (no secrets) and post it. We can all look at it and learn at our leisure and that way if anyone asks for the info, they can just be directed to that website.

Tenacity has already posted the website to each NPHC org, and the NPHC website. Each of those websites has a history section, along with national programs information. Feel free to browse each site at your leisure.

Like my soror mentioned, NPHC groups get enough questions just from our prospectives. I don't have the time to sit and answer every question, and I can only speak on Sigma Gamma Rho, which is only one org out of the nine in the NPHC.

So if those websites have everything, what is in the books you guys talk about?

The books have a much more detailed historical accounting than the websites. But the websites do contain information on how to become a member.

In case you are interested, the Delta book is entitled "In Search of Sisterhood." It can be bought at any major book store.

I, as a Delta, chose not to comment on any of our significant symbols because of our protocol. I wish you as an Omega had not.

You guys have nationwide book distribution on your history??
