Only quoting to make my point. Not arguing. I just wanted people to know what my post was in regards to.

Point is very well taken!:) If a fooPa as it seems to be, maybe a lot over active, if against the regulations. well? Yes, a lot depends on the School, but a lot depends on previous problems. Why tobacco was brought up is unbeknownest to me.:( Atoinement can be a good thing, but do it not because it has to be done to get a butt out of a sling, but because it needs to be done.:) Mess up, correct, it effects us all as Greeks. But Remember, as Greeks, We are in the spot light! |
maybe the community service that they perform is ineligeble to be counted towards their national/ collegiete requirements. in phi mu, we get "graded" on a variety of areas, including community service. if we did a ton of community service and weren't able to count it towards our philanthropy "score" it would not make up for losing points in the area of risk management.

Have any of y'all ever been to a community mission which is mostly for homeless alcoholics? If you have, you instantly know what I'm suggesting - the smell, the sounds, the sights - they're all SO very bad that you will seriously reconsider ever drinking ANYTHING again!
So, why not have your entire sorority, and your entire guestlist, volunteer for one day a week at one of these shelters? This is the very best way to see up close and personal what happens to people who disregard the rules for the sake of a drink or two. I'd also have at least one video camera going (if the shelter will allow you). Register the reaction of each sister as she gets her first whiff of dozens of homeless, stale alcoholics. Tape the reaction of the underage sister as she's screamed at by someone with dt's. Video the sisters as they clean up the "accidents", dole out the meals, change the beds, etc. I guarantee that it will be a lesson that you'll never forget!! Oh, and as for the full page ad: wouldn't that be against the campus Panhel rules? It would seriously damage Recruitment. |

Regardless of Panhel rules, if these girls were concerned about their image for recruitment purposes, maybe they should have thought about that before they disregarded the rules. |

Alcohol awareness programs = lame. Everyone's seen so many that they really don't make a dent.
Community service = very degrading to the people you'll be "servicing" to have to put up with a bunch of women who don't want to be there. I do not agree with community service (the kind where you interact with others not involved in your transgression that is) as a punishment under any circumstances. Recruitment stuff = if the student body doesn't disapprove of what they did, it won't hurt them a bit. Try volunteering to clean the dorms for a week - and the salaries that would have been paid to the cleaning people come out of your treasury. Let's get real, $$ and degredation are the ways to hit people where they live. This is the only punishment I can see being a real deterrent to other groups doing this - which is what the school really wants. |
