Ever the trivial-historical-fact comment here:

LXA did wait until the 1960's to allow non-whites (not sure
if we were one of the first or not). But I've heard stories about
how strictly they enforced it just before it was changed.

Obviously by the 50's there were some "progressive" chapters
who would admit non-whites....and they had to try and hide
it from HQ....if HQ found out, that was an easy way to loose
a charter!

Our chapter initiated an American Indian during that time....
had a "white" name of course, his name wasn't Chief Buffalo
Tail Smith or anything like that....but they always had to
"hide" him whenever chapter consultants came around.

Now he's one of our wealthiest alumni (according to the
grapevine) ;)

OK, but here's the interesting historical note:

ThKN also had a whites-only clause in their constitution....
and they even used the term "Arian Race." BUT... oddly
enough...their constitution declared that American Indians
were ARIAN! So AI's could be ThKN's. At the time of the
union, LXA wouldn't admit AI's. But I've never heard
how that was "settled"

I'm sure there were so few cased of AI's actually joining
ThKN that they just ignored the issue. Would be interesting
to know how such a group (ThKN) came up with the idea in 1924,
when the KKK was seen as American as the Boy Scouts,
that AIs are "arian race"....must have been some AIs
amongst the 11 founding chapters.

Sorry to intrude.....

Hello men of LXA.

As a graduate of an HBCU (ahem - Kentucky State Univ. c/o '97), I was wondering if the chapter at NC A&T was a result of recruitment efforts on the part of your fraternity or was LXA contacted by the group of young men? Second question, is colonizing on HBCUs now(or maybe it always has been) a "goal" of LXA, especially now since many HBCUs are becoming steadily more and more diverse.

Just curious to know. :)

I wish your colony at NC A&T much luck and may God bless their endeavors. :)

honeykiss, LXA did this on their own, dead bang!

I called it The Great Experiment.Un Heard of, Yes.

But When I and several Members of GC LXA Members were there and saw their Presentation as a New Colony, stay or go, I went to bat for These Young Men and have been keeping in Contact With Them When I can are doing very well.

What is important to Me, is the fact that all of the present GLOs are working with them!

Hopefully They Will be Chartered in the near future!

So, The Great Experiment is turning to a Positive of GLOism!

It was not ever a Priority but a fact of trying to Grow on a Progressive and growing campus.

You mention diverse, well, at our G A, three young men all of different color were there to present their ideals.

I am Proud to Know each one of Them!

I hope more NPC/NIC organizations decide to try to expand to HBCUs.

Sistermadly,

I think We all beleive that expansion is to benefit all of us. Either do or wither away.

It is interesting with the advent of Latino and Multi GLOs, there must be a problem with Us as these people did not find what they wanted and so is it on many Campi!

Basically, I think We as Fraternitys/Soeoritys are looking to where We can expand to and find quality people for Our GLOs!
