I grew up in Lansdale. I was at Pitt my freshmen year and then transfered to Penn State. PA as a state is not hick. There may be certain areas that are, but there certain areas like that in every state. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I'm glad to see people defending my state.

OMG I was wondering this same thing today. I'm from Long Island, but I go to school in CT and know some PA people. I used to think of Philly whenever PA came to mind, but the PA people I know sound have that "country drawl" Like everybody's been saying, everywhere has its "hick" areas. As an NYC/LI girl, I thought that upstate NY was the hick area because there are mountains and farmland up there. However, people think Long Island people are hicks, as in ignorant and dumb (as quite a few are unfortunately). There is a "Hicksville" in Long Island.

It's interesting too, because in the area I am from (all woods, mountains and farmland), it is only 90 minutes from NYC and many people who move up there are actually from the NYC Metro-area which has caused the prices of homes and land to skyrocket. Also, many people I work with who are originally from down here moved up in that area after their kids were born and make the commute to work so the kids can have a better upbringing, better schools etc. and the area is still pretty cheap compared to Long Island.

Hell, even CA has Hick parts... (like almost the whole very center of it)

I'm Southern California born and bred. I have been to several locations in PA including Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Williamsport.
IMHO, Pennsylvania is not a hick state. .....Kelly :) |

I used to be on my university archery team. We made several trips to tournaments in Tulare and Visalia. Let me just say that those places were more "hick-like" than PA. .....Kelly :) |

Pennsylvaina is a hick state. Other than Philadelphia and Pittsburg, Pennsylvainia is West Virginia.

I live and was raised in Louisiana, where everyone does think we are a hick state(THE WATERBOY didn't help) but I've visited Philly, and some of the country side and it was not hick at all, and like that other thread, I do not believe any state is hick, they all just have certain spots

And chick ain't from the Sides... More like Hemet... And the bad side across the street in Hemet... And if she's in San Diego--she's like in Boulevard, California... Dude, now that's hicksville... Not quite Imperial County, but outside of San Diego County... |
I agree PA is not a hick state.

Welllllll......I don't know about *that* Bobby, LOL. Are you trying to say that Anaheim isn't Orange County?? hehehehe funny. My aunt and uncle live up on Skyline Dr. in Santa Ana 'roundabaout the Tustin area. Believe me, that neighborhood is OC!! And it's north and east of the locations you mention! Methinks you all need to stop acting like the only OC is the one you see on TV. :p As someone who lived on the LA/OC county line for seven years (Long Beach), I can tell you with certainty that even places like Garden Grove fit in to an OC vibe more than most places in Los Angeles. So, quit being an OC snob! :D .....Kelly :) |
