OH MAN this thread was made for me. I have always been a really picky eater, but I try to be accomodating - I mean really, every restaurant has a Caesar salad. My family is really harsh on it, particularily my grandfather. Whenever we go out for fish fry, he'll launch into me about why I don't eat the fish. Lately my dad and my boyfriend have been ganging up on me about my hatred of non-poultry meats....it's so stupid. I don't care if they eat it, so why do they care if I don't?

I'm an insanely picky eater. But I try to be as flexible as I can so that when I go out to dinner with friends, the choice of restaurant isn't a huge pain in the butt just because there's nothing on the menu I eat. If all else fails, I'll have soup and salad. Not eating meat and not liking fish or spicy food or anything with milk makes me a really tough sell. If I start saying 'but there's nothing there I can eat' then I think they'd be justified in calling me a pain in the ass. My uncles and aunts and grandparents ALWAYS make comments about how picky I am which makes me insane because I try to make it as easy as possible when I'm at someone's house and they're cooking dinner. I never excpect or ask or even want a separate meal made for me. I am the sidedish Queen. |
I had a sorority sister who was a vegetarian and her boyfriend thought the whole concept was a bunch of crap so hed call her up and tell her he wanted to take her out to dinner. He would then take her to some fast food joint like burger king, order a quarter pounder or something with tons of meat on it, eat it in front of her and make stupid comments about her being a vegetarian. She would always bitch and moan abotu his behavior but they were together for 1.5 yrs. I always thought his reaction to her choice was out of line but thats just me.
I am also somewhat picky about my food. I'm not a fan of red meat and eat it rarely. Although my immediate family including some aunts and uncles are understanding and always try to make something on the side for me if the main dish is meat I have some extended distant family that just dont get it. They all know I dont eat red meat but they will invite me over for dinner and the ONLY thing on the menu is kabobs or something to that effect and they get all ticked off that all I will eat for dinner is salad. |

I don't like my food to touch either. About your body getting used to lactose. It's pretty true with me. I'm only mildly lactose intolerant. If I eat dairy on a regular basis I seldomly have symptoms...but if I go a while without eating dairy and then re-introduce it back into my diet watch out! :D |
