The whole six county area around Chicago is called Chicagoland. Like a theme park. (The rest of Illinois is considered Downstate)

We called my town Boringbrook when we were in high school.

Its been that way all of my life. When I was growing up in Brooklyn, and we were heading into Manhattan, we would say that we were "going to the City," even though Brooklyn is part of the same municipality.

Also, people who live in Manhattan don't identify with living in Manhattan. We identify with areas and neighborhoods. For example, Manhattan south of 23rd St. is "Downtown." Downtown has a different culture than Uptown. So many people (myself included) identify more with Downtown than another area. Also, Downtown has many neighborhoods including Greenwich Village, SoHo, TriBeCa, Chinatown, Battery Park City (which is all the way down, but culturally more like Uptown) and more.

SC is mainly divided into 2 sections...the Upstate and the Low Country. I live in the Upstate. I also live in the portain of the Upstate known as the Piedmont.
I also grew up in a little "country" community known as The Buck Stand!

For my part of Southern California - So. Cal, Southland, SouthBay, or LBC.

I should add that the suburbs surrounding Toronto are called "The 905", after their area code. Toronto's area code is 416.

I don't like that last on. It's the laziest thing to call a state capital. River City makes more sence, since there's a river in the direct center of it. Plus, it was founded to be known as "Richon on the James" as opposed to "Richmon on the Thames"
