Its something that Coach Fran used this year to unify the football team. In keeping with his theme this year about playing for the names on the front of the jerseys instead of the names on the back.

All the players wear em, and fans were able to buy them through the bookstores.

Using mr. self-hating's Cyclone's rationale, i suppose that we should stop having different colored lapel ribbons too. I mean, pink for breast cancer, red(i think) for AIDS, etc. They're all just rip-offs of the yellow ribbon people wore or displayed showing their support of troops overseas. All those other causes are just disgracing the original.

One of my co-workers has a pink braclet for breast cancer. I don't know where he got it from, but I have seen them out there.

It's one thing to have a ribbon or bracelet for a meaningful cause, but a disgrace if the idea is ripped off for a sports team. Especially a craptacular basketball team (shit- we did so much better when we had all those stoners on the team- proof that marijuana is a performance enhancing drug)

Here's a crazy thought. How about instead of posting on a message board that a school that you decided to attend sucks, you try to do something about it? Share your opinion on why you think the free item is dumb with a better audience, such as Iowa State students? Send a letter to the editor of the Daily, or the Ames Trib or post on a site with more ISU traffic like StrangeTalk or CampusAuthority.

I, personally, don't have a problem with these things. It's a free, promotional item, like those little poms that people giveaway or the red towels that were handed out at Homecoming. The purpose isn't real complex, it's an effort to show support for something. When I participated in Recruitment as an active member and even now, all the women wear little blue ribbons to display Panhellenic unity. I'm going to have to agree with AggieSigmaNu361 that with your logic of thinking, CPC is ripping off of previous ribbon efforts.

Also, there's a lot of these bracelets for so many different things now. I think four or five of my female cousins had them when I saw them at Thanksgiving. And according to other previous posters, it's not like ISU is the only school with these things, but they're not making a profit off of them either since they're free.

I have to respectfully disagree about it being tacky or disrespectful or whatever. I understand everyone's point about equating cancer and football, there is no comparison, but I think it's just a new fad that people are using to support whatever it is they support.

And that "craptacular" basketball team just beat a ranked opponent.

Alright, so as of right now, NO MORE T-SHIRTS WITH SPORTS TEAM LOGOS ON THEM.

I mean, for years the ZTA's at A&M would sell shirts for their philanthropy with the proceeds going to breast cancer research. So, there's your precedent, as of now, no clothing can contain sports logos.

Oh and since PBS does it's yearly telethon to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy we can now no longer use televisions to watch sports.

Really, if you hate ISU so much, what is keeping you there? I'm sure that you could find a school that has a similar degree plan. I know that ISU is a great research institution, but surely there's something more to your liking. But you should probably avoid A&M. A big part of going to school there is our traditions and love of our school. Or are you just one of those people that like to bitch and moan but are too lazy to actually change things?

They increased my tuition 60% in 3 years. 3 years in means too late to get out. But after I graduate I will only donate a total of my 2 cents to Iowa State.

Yeah . . . you forgot to mention that that's actually slightly lower than the increases at the other 2 major state schools.

Oh, you also forgot that this was part of a 6-year plan by the state to improve ISU, and which moved it from the dredges of tier-3 status solidly into the upper tier-2 range, alongside UI (thus increasing the amount your non-engineering degree is worth).

Throw in the new dorms, new business building, and the upgrades to funding in areas like, oh, let's say the Greek system, and even a fanatical UI homer can see that state is doing good things with the money.

I think tuition increases are just a part of life at most college campuses now. What with technology improvements, housing improvements, etc., the money has to come from somewhere.

It's not the optimum, but I think it's now the standard at many schools.

I hate to tell you this, but tuition increases are a part of life anymore. When I graduated from my state school in May, they had raised my tuition about 75% in 4 years. And those increases had given the campus many things to improve (i.e. another on-campus apartment complex, and more parking.)

So, quit complaining! Do something about it. But, if you don't, you'll have no one to blame but yourself.

I am doing something about it- never giving the rat bastards anymore than 2 cents on an oversized novelty check.

It's never too late to transfer. There have been people who have transferred the last semester of their senior year to graduate from a different school. Remember all those schools you said you had been accepted to? Then WTH did you choose to go to Iowa State? It sounds like someone's a Bitter Betty who's bitching for the sake of bitching.

Yeah, tuition raises suck. I had a few girls in my chapter who had to transfer because they couldn't afford the out-of-state tuition anymore, but that's what has to be done. If we didn't raise tuition then you'd probably be bitching about how the facilities suck and how how bad the sports teams are--oh wait, you already do that. You also find the most irrelevant, inconsequential information to spew out about my school when you do say something "postive" and then spin it into something negative. And the majority of the time, you're completely wrong!

Thankfully, there are plenty of other alumni who do care about my school and who are willing to donate their money. Lots of money, too. So we won't need yours, thanks.
