I'm still confused on the whole internet hazing thing.... can someone explain?

wreckingcrew 11-30-2004 12:36 AM

I don't know.

I would absolutely, positively refuse to give out any Sigma Nu information over IM or the internet. I dont' care if it was an active trying to elicit information from me(or if they said they were) i would say, "Sir, out of respect for our organization, i refuse to answer your question, why don't i call you or meet you somewhere?"

I'd refuse, much like i'd refuse to discuss SNu info with anyone on GC, even ktsnake. Now, i'm sure that he's a brother, but i woudln't share info with him unless we'd met and both of our memberships are verified.

Sounds like anyone that would demand pledges to give info out over IM is someone that doesn't really care about the secrecy of thier org. Whose to say that its not their roommate or friend, using their IM name?

KS 361 times more fun hazing is in person, anyway

WHAT IS THE NAME OF DELTA GAMMA'S 6th MEMBERS DOG?!! QUICK YOU!!! TELL ME!!!!

 Seems like "internet hazing" would be a little silly. For that matter all hazing is silly...why hurt your friends...

as far as internet hazing...this is the first i've ever heard of it, but i guess it could happen. as people get more and more creative, i guess it's just the next step in the process. with the ability to save IM conversations, emails and the such, it would probably be easier to prosecute as well.

Either way it's hardly intimidating....

First of all, what would happen if you get it wrong? I doubt any org (that anyone would even want to be a part of) would de-pedge someone on an IM...and two...if you're being grilled online and you have your membership book near you.....

Paddling? Circle the fat? Kid stuff. What ever happened to "The Great Chicago Fire"? The Frozen Cherry Sundae? The Midnight Train? The Gold Dust Twins? The Leap of Faith? The Samur Sweepstakes? ... and all the other quaint customs and traditions like that all time favorite activity affectionately referred to as the T.E. that in peace time are called pledge activities and in war time are called atrocities? Ah, the golden days of our mis-spent youth!

wait, you mean it ISN'T right to degrade and humiliate other people to gain respect? But I thought that was the only way. Respect is a one-way street right? I treat the pledge like $hit and he respects the hell out of me. You have just shattered my entire world view.

Someone please tell me what is meant by Gold Dust Twins.

Because when I think of it I see http://icollectorbazaar.com/colljpg/ad_006.jpg

Rolling around on the ground until you are covered in flour; in the olden days taken directly from a popular and cheap brand of flour with overtly prejudiced packaging as shown above.

A "sugar cookie" is the same but replace with wet bodies and rolling around in sand. Really popular disciplinary tool in BUD/S (Basic UDT/Seal) training.

TheEpitome1920 12-02-2004 01:07 PM

I find that REALLY offensive given the nature of this product. And people wonder why certain groups exist.

What kind of dumbass wouldn't just log off AIM or whatever if she was being "hazed" online?

Rudey 12-02-2004 01:49 PM

Are there internet alumni initiations?

Well, you know, what kind of dumbass just wouldn't walk out of the room if she was being hazed in real life?

LOL, exactly. I've never understood that.

TheEpitome1920 12-02-2004 01:53 PM

People will do anything for membership. The numerous hazing cases are PROOF of that. So while it may not make sense to some it's been happening for decades.
