So are all the moral idiots bitching to the FCC to fine NBC for using the word fuck? Or do they only find nudity offensive enough to impose their religious/moral code on others?

I haven't heard anything more about this incident.

But it's important to understand one thing.

Broadcasting in this country has, since The Communications Act of 1934, always been built around the premise that broadcasters are granted the use of the "public" airwaves. The fact is that the generations who are comfortable with the use of certain language and other social changes ain't the whole public. In fact, the largest part of the viewing and listening audience is fairly old.

As frustrated as I am with the Bush/Powell FCC (which we're stuck with for another four years) and the morals of the religious Right, I'm not the only one watching.

Please don't tell me that people can just turn off their sets. In a situation like this one, or the Janet Jackson SuperBowl stunt and other things -- that's not an option. Nobody expects something like that to happen.

Except maybe MTV. But that's another story.

So you're basically rolling over and letting the Puritans control media outlets? Notice how Janet's ugly tit didn't shock anyone in Canada, Latin America or Europe. It's time for Americans to grow up.

I'm not rolling anywhere. It's the law and has been since 1934 when the old FRC (Federal Radio Commission), the precursor of today's FCC was formed to end the "chaos" that radio was in back then.

I'm not crazy about the selective enforcement.

Here's my point, though. Just because you or I or anyone else thinks something is OK, that doesn't make it so.

The "public" is big, and if it really does "own" the airwaves, then the government has every right to enforce it's laws and regulations.

If you don't like it --- watch cable. Although some of the more conservative members of congress are pushing to give FCC regulatory powers over cable as well.

You are truly ridiculous, and not just for referring to Janet Jackson's tit as 'ugly' (she spent plenty to make sure they are not, in fact, ugly).

And congrats to Pitt - jesus, they're the BCS representative out of the Big East? Get Louisville in the f-ing league, and quickly . . .

Don't worry...in a couple of years UConn will be dominating a mediocre league. Terry Caulley rules!

I don't think anyone's "rolling over;" I'd like to think the majority of people see the problem, they just have different ways of dealing with it.
